Principal Update:
Dear Families,
February is here and we're off to a good start. Thank you to our Lake Hood families that came out and enjoyed an evening of winter festivities. We thank the PTA, Staff, and all of our volunteers who helped in many ways to make Winterfest memorable. Thank you, Trudy, for our fabulous Librarian, and Donnell, our Instructional Coach will take over Student Council this semester. Ms. Tantillo, the 6th-grade teacher who was our Student Council coordinator in 1st semester will not be returning. She will be missed. We wish her the best. We will be looking for a teacher to finish the rest of the school year, in the meantime, a substitute will be in the classroom. We have a couple of events coming at the end of the month and the first week in March. Please come to our Social and Emotional Learning Night on 2/28 5:30-7:30 pm and Dr. Suess's Breakfast on 3/2 from 7:45-8:45 (bring a dish). More information will be shared as we get closer to the date. Save those dates. We also have field trips coming. If you plan to chaperone, please fill out the ASD Volunteer form at asdk12.org. Let us know if you need help finding it online. It takes around 7 days to get approved/declined so be sure to do it soon if interested. If you are interested in volunteering, working, or would like to meet with me please call or email me so we can schedule a time to talk. Make sure students are sharing what they are learning in their classes, getting a good night's rest, and spending time outside getting some fresh air away from the TV and other devices.
I look forward to seeing you at our next event or waving goodbye as you pick up your child.
Mrs. Humecky

Access Testing Information
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Beginning February 1st our school will be conducting a state-required assessment for English Language Learners. This assessment is called ACCESS and provides important feedback about the progress of our English Language Learners in Reading, Speaking, Listening, and Writing. Students will take the test using our school’s computers. Only students who are currently identified as members of the English Language Learners (ELL) Program will be assessed. Most of the assessments will be completed during the first two weeks of February but some may continue into March. More information about the ACCESS assessment can be found on the Alaska Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s ACCESS page, http://education.alaska.gov/assessments/elp.
If you have any questions about this test, you are encouraged to contact us here at school at 907-245-5521. You may also contact the District’s ELL Department at 742-4452. Information about the English Language Learners Program in the School District can be found on ASD’s website.
As always, with testing, we ask that families plan so that their students are in school and are well-rested for testing. Your patience and support for this process are very much appreciated as this assessment does provide useful information that helps our district and school improvement programs for English Language Learners.
