On Thursday during Advisory, teachers began discussing organizations and executive functioning skills and distributed agendas. Agendas are free for all students at The Rock!
On Friday, the administrative team held class meeting to reinforce expectations related to attendance, honor code, cell phones, policy 8240 - drugs, policy - 8235 weapons, policy - 8250 bullying and See Something Say Something. Additionally, the administrative team reinforced opportunities for leadership and the importance of student voice in our school. We ask that you review these policies at home as well as you partner with us in supporting your child.

Attendance Reminders
Absence Reporting
Parents - please use ParentVue to report all attendance events, tardies, absences and early releases from school.
Early dismissal requests MUST contain dismissal time AND reason. Tardy notifications MUST contain a reason the student will be tardy. "Appointment" needs to contain what KIND of appointment, whether for tardy, dismissal, or absence.
Student is responsible for picking up an early dismissal pass from the attendance window anytime their parent has requested they have an early dismissal. They will show this pass to their teacher at dismissal time, and report to the attendance window to check-out.
Chronic Absenteeism/Extended Leave
Chronic Absenteeism is when a student misses more than 10% of the school year....this is about 18 days according to LCPS calendar. This means any day missed, both sick days and vacations, excused and unexcused and for many students it only takes a few days to have an impact academically and socio-emotionally.
Please contact our attendance office or school counseling department if there are questions regarding extended leave requests.
School Counseling - Schedule Changes
Please remember that the deadline to change courses was last Spring. We have built the school schedule based on student requests. Staffing of classes was based on those requests. So it is very challenging as classes are full to move any students without complete disruption of the students current schedule. So please understand, when we are not able to honor a late request for a course change, it is not because we do not want to, it is just not possible in many situations.
Free/Reduced Lunch and Snack Availability
A reminder, families must apply for Free/Reduced lunch EACH YEAR.
You can apply on the website (https://lcpshealthycafe.org), under the Free and Reduced tab with the links to apply for the meals program. The student's parent or guardian will obtain an Eligibility Letter in response to a meals benefit application and if you are still waiting to receive that letter, please email cafe@lcps.org or call School Nutrition Services at 540-751-2690. Families receiving Federal Benefits (SNAP, TANF, and Medicaid), need to make sure that an Eligibility Letter (approval letter) is received as a confirmation for 2023 – 2024 for all your children. For additional enquiries, kindly reach out to our family liaison, sophia.saib@lcps.org .
Snack Pantry
Students that have been approved for the Free and Reduced Lunch may visit the Snack Pantry during Brain Break. The Snack Pantry is located in the Rock Ridge main office and offers one complimentary snack per day. This free snack is meant to bridge the gap between the Cafeteria Breakfast and Lunch to ensure that our students are ready for a great day at school!

Senior Meetings
September 6 - October 14
Students may now schedule their mandatory Senior Advisement Meeting with their assigned School Counselor. You may schedule your appointment via this link: Rock Ridge Senior Booking
What to Expect from the Senior Meeting
Based on each individual student's interests and goals after High School, Counselors will outline the process for applying to colleges and/or provide information regarding military opportunities, community college, gap year, etc. In addition, counselors will review websites, forms, and items needed.
A Note about Transcript Request Forms
As a reminder, the Counselors follow College & University application deadlines only. That is, if you submit a transcript request form "much" earlier than the college deadline; the Counselors will still abide by the College/University deadlines. The Counseling office provides internal department submission deadlines for all forms that students will be required to follow. These deadlines allow Counselors enough time to prepare forms and send a completed packet to each College by the College & University application deadline.
For Senior students who may have an October 15th college application deadline; the deadline for submitting your Transcript Request form to the Counseling office is September 22, 2023. These students should also set up their Senior meeting as soon as they can.
