Mac El Weekly News

This week was a great start to the second marking period, which tends to be one of the busiest! We had after-school remediation, the Be See Be Heard convocation, and walked a mile to raise money for United Way! It was a little too cold to walk outside and there was concern that some kids didn't have appropriate jackets/pants, etc. We played music and they had fun walking and dancing. Some even said let's do this every week!

As it is getting a little bit cooler, please remind your student to wear their jackets, hats, and gloves They will still be going outside for recess. Also, this a reminder that Monday they will be allowed to wear costumes to school, see more info below.

On Monday, students may wear costumes to school. Costumes should be school appropriate, with NO weapons, gore, too scary, or full face coverings. In the afternoon, students will get to parade through the school to show their costumes to other students. Any student without a costume can still participate...they are just dressed as "an elementary student."

Passport to Literacy is a Family Fun night to promote literacy. Come as a family and get your "passport stamped" as you attend different stations. Students have a chance to win books and other small prizes, as well as be entered into a drawing for one large prize per grade level as well. We look forward to seeing you on this fun night!

PTO provides a great opportunity to be involved in your child's school planning and volunteering for events for students and staff. We recently sponsored the Scholastic Book Fair and as a result, were able to donate books to our library and classrooms for students. We are currently planning events and fundraisers. If you are interested in getting involved, please email macelpto@maconaquah.k12.in.us for more information. The more volunteers we have, the more events we can plan.

When calling in your student's absence, please give the reason they are absent. As attendance is required by the state, it needs to be documented. Also, after five (5) absences by a call-in, a doctor's note is required for a future absence to be excused. Thank you for your efforts to get your student to school, as good attendance is vital to student success.

We had our Be Seen & Heard Body Safety program for 2nd through 5th grade. Our presenter talked with each grade level about safe touches and unsafe touches and to make sure to tell a trusted adult if someone makes us feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Classes then reviewed who their trusted adults are as what are some empowering statements they can use if someone threatenes them not to tell their trusted adult when they feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

Our 2nd and 3rd-grade students will be presenting a Veterans Day Program on Friday, November 11, 2022. The performances will be in the High School Auditorium. Guests should park in the back of the high school to enter Door 14N. The program will be about 30 minutes long. The Veterans Day Programs will be live-streamed.

We will have a dress rehearsal on November 10. The students will practice in the auditorium with their teachers present. Morning group practice: 9:00 a.m.-9:45 a.m. Afternoon group practice: 12:15 p.m.-1:00 p.m..

Third-grade afternoon classes will be offered a school sack lunch rather than the regular tray on both days to accommodate our practice and performance times and the lunch schedule.

On the day of the performance, students should wear red, white, and blue. Solid-colored t-shirts and jeans (no holes) are best looking on stage. Dress clothes in red, white, and blue are also acceptable. Clothing imprinted with American flags or the words USA, etc. is also fine. Please NO hats (we want to see their faces!) or any items specific to a political party/candidate (we are honoring our country’s Veterans).

We will be walking from Mac El over to the auditorium, so make sure your student is dressed for the weather for both November 10th and November 11th.

Don’t Miss Out! Now is the time to place your order for custom keepsake products featuring your child’s artwork. These items make great gifts for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and any other important person in your child’s life. The deadline to order is November 4. Order forms were sent home with your child this week.

Please be aware of your child's lunch account. Students are not permitted to charge more than $10. If they owe that, they will be given an alternative lunch or breakfast. Menus are available on the school website. Please be sure to plan accordingly and keep student meal accounts current. Thank you!

In the morning, students will need to bring their ID to get breakfast. This will help them get through the line more quickly and be able to start their day on time. If your child has lost their ID, they can go to the office and get a replacement for $5.
