Leyden conducts Safety Week
Safety Week at Leyden will take place January 16-19. The drills practiced during the week meet state requirements and help Leyden students and staff know what to expect should an emergency arise. Please note that there may be a visible presence from the first responders during the drills.
We recognize that running drills, particularly a lockdown drill, may prompt many feelings. Students who may have concerns or need additional support during this week should reach out to the Deans office.

Leyden offers financial aid application workshops
Leyden offers financial aid application workshops for families Tuesday, January 16, at East and Wednesday, January 17, at West. Workshops run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the student cafeterias. This event is an opportunity for families to receive assistance completing the financial aid application process. Financial aid may be used to help pay for colleges, trade schools, vocational training and applying for it is a graduation requirement in Illinois. Families may attend either event, regardless of the school their student attends.

Taste of Leyden offers incoming freshman smooth transition
The Taste of West will be held Tuesday, January 16, and the Taste of East will be held on Wednesday, January 17. Both events run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
This is the first event in a student’s career at Leyden High School and offers families and students a glimpse into the curriculum and many activities that are offered throughout the school year, including our new Advisory program and Student Activities. A postcard was mailed out with additional information. If you have any questions please contact the main office at West Leyden at 847-451-3122, or East Leyden at 847-451-3023.
Summer school 2024 dates and registration announced
Summer school will be held at West Leyden starting June 10, and will run through July 25. Registration for incoming freshmen is open January 18 - 22, Consumer Education for juniors and seniors January 18 - April 30, and for all other courses and upperclassmen, January 18 - May 31.

Leyden offers virtual parent series
Leyden High School continues its partnership with the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS) which is offering numerous upcoming virtual sessions. Some of the topics discussed this month will include problem solving to reduce anxiety or challenging behavior, teaching our kids how to handle human emotion, creating positive parent-child relationships, keys to successful parenting, talking about drug abuse and the overdose crisis. GPS is a resource to inform, connect and inspire parents, educators, students and the community. The speakers presented in these sessions offer knowledge, strategies and personal experiences to help support parents and students. This program offers free virtual events presented at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. and is offered in multiple languages.

Teacher honored at a Chicago Bears game at Soldier Field
West Leyden Special Education Teacher, Kevin Mitchell was honored as a “Classroom Legend” at the December 31, Chicago Bears Game at Soldier Field.

Boys Swimming and Diving Team
Congratulations to the Boys Swimming and Diving team for taking 2nd at the Hoffman Estates Invite. Leyden Boys Swimming placed second place at the Leyden Invite swim meet.
Girls Basketball
Girls basketball had a big win against Waukegan in the last game of the snowflake tournament. Katherine MacLeod and Daija Cohen were selected to the All-Tournament Team and volunteered at Feed My Starving Children on New Year’s weekend. Their team packed 175 boxes with 37,800 meals that can feed 104 kids for a year.
