THANKSGIVING PRAYER
O God, we thank you for this earth, our home;
For the wide sky and the blessed sun,
For the salt sea and the running water,
For the everlasting hills
And the never-resting winds,
For trees and the common grass underfoot.
We thank you for our senses
By which we hear the songs of birds,
And see the splendor of the summer fields,
And taste of the autumn fruits,
And rejoice in the feel of the snow,
And smell the breath of the spring.
Grant us a heart wide open to all this beauty;
And save our souls from being so blind
That we pass unseeing
When even the common thornbush
Is aflame with your glory,
O God our creator,
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Thanks
I wish to express my gratitude to my teachers for all the hard work they have done so far with the preparation of the parent/teacher meetings held last week. While over 98% parents attended these there still remains a few who did not make appointments. We will not be releasing report cards to those who have not made contact with their child's teacher. It is important that the positive relationship between teacher and parent always remains constant.
Athletic Board Spaghetti dinner
Tomorrow evening the Athletic Board is hosting their Annual Spaghetti Dinner to raise funds for the athletic program. May I thank the board for their preparation for this dinner. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend as I will be attending a conference on the Brain and Learning. I wish all a wonderful evening.
Congratulations
Congratulations to our 7th grade volleyball team who took home the championship last weekend. Thanks to the coaches.
Congratulations to the 6th grade girls volleyball team who came second place in the finals. Many thanks to all coaches for your hard work during the season.
Kindergarten Enrollment
We are at the stage of enrolling our new Kindergarten class for the coming school year. Traditionally the Kindergarten class fills up early, and then we have a waiting list. I would ask if you have a child or know of someone who has a Kindergarten-age child to enroll as soon as possible. There will be an open house on Tuesday, December 4th from 9am to 11 am.
The admissions tab on the school website will become live on Monday, November 19th for new admissions.
Camp Fire Response
We are all aware of the recent tragic fires in northern and southern California, and we want as a school community to reach out to the victims who have lost their property. Therefore, to start with, we will have a free dress day next Monday, November 19th, with a $2.00 donation. If you wish to give more money that certainly is welcomed. Thanks for your support in advance.
Thanksgiving Food Appeal
Traditionally every Thanksgiving, we have a food drive to assist St. Vincent De Paul with their food bank. We are currently collecting food until next Wednesday. Please donate food and it can be left on the table in the school.
Book Fair
The Annual Book Fair begins after Thanksgiving. Please support this this year as all proceeds go towards the purchase of books for each class library.
Outside Picnic Tables
Six eight-foot long picnic tables arrived at the school during the week, but unfortunately they were not assembled. We are in need of volunteers to assist Lucio to assemble these tables so the students will benefit from them. We will be locating them down on the lower yard near the Earthquake Shed. If you can spare time to assist please email Mrs. Cierra at info@ssfallsoulsschool.org
New Phone System
We have replaced our phone system with a more updated version which is VOIP equipped. We have set it up to ring 4 times before going to the auto attendant. I still believe that when you call the school you be greeted by a human voice if at all possible.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING
I hope that everyone will have a wonderful Thanksgiving next week. It is a wonderful time to be with family and friends and give thanks for all the blessings we have received from the Lord.
God Bless,
Vincent Riener

Ms. J's Journal
"Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good..."
- Psalm 100:4, 5a
The capacity for true gratitude develops as children grow and become aware of the positive contributions of the people and things in their lives. Gratitude is a skill to be learned and developed like many others. As horrific natural disasters and man-made tragedies dominate the news, it is important to remind ourselves and our children that there is always something to be thankful for.
What better time, then, to help children understand and express gratitude than in this holiday season. As your family comes together to celebrate Thanksgiving next week, encourage your children to recognize and talk about their blessings. The daily counting of blessings at mealtime or as part of a bedtime ritual can become a powerful reminder to your children of how lucky they are.
Also, don’t forget to take time to count your own blessings. The rush of daily life gets even more hectic around the holidays. Let’s not forget to remind ourselves of whom and what we are celebrating – and why.
Happy Thanksgiving!
All the best,
Miss J

BOX TOPS
Box Tops for Education was started by General Mills in California back in 1996, after the company decided they wanted to create a program to help support education and benefit America’s schools. All Souls has benefitted from this program over the years, receiving sports equipment, microscopes, and a variety of other educational items.
You can help by clipping the Box Tops off approved products you already have in your pantry. You don't need to clip the actual product UPC — just the Box Tops logo will do. From frozen foods to produce and household cleaning products, there are literally hundreds of opportunities to help, and each Box Top is worth 10 cents. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it adds up fast.
There are so many participating companies! Participating companies and product lines include General Mills, Green Giant, Totino's, Pillsbury, Old El Paso, Ziploc, Hefty, Juicy Juice, Betty Crocker and many more. For a full list of eligible items check the Box Tops for Education website at https://www.boxtops4education.com/earn .
