I hope this message finds you well as we march forward in this very unconventional school year. This week we have been celebrating our fabulous staff at Discovery. Thank you PTO for the wonderful gifts and support throughout the year. As I walk down the halls at Discovery and pop in on the remote classes I hear students engaged with their teachers and it is heart warming.
One thing we are celebrating at Discovery is the return to specialists to teaching areas outside the classrooms. Students have been able to return to the gym for PE and the music room for music. Both of these areas have high ceilings and good ventilation. Library is being held in a separate classroom and SKIP is also being held in a separate classroom as the regular areas we have don't meet the current guidelines. In each area safety protocols are being followed (cleaning surfaces and equipment between groups, wearing masks, handwashing and six foot distancing). The students really appreciate getting out of the classroom for these special classes. Teachers like having space for planning also. It is a win win win.
This is the time of year we start to plan for next year. We are not putting out a placement input form this year because we will have so many changes to our staffing. However if you have specific concerns please email or call Vicky Franklin (vfranklin@fifeschools.com 253-517-1200).
