November 27, 2023
Dear West Wing Parents,
Thank you to all of our parents and students for a smooth adjustment to our arrival and dismissal procedures. This strategic adjustment has been implemented to enhance the safety of our students and staff during arrival and dismissal, by avoiding the flow of right and left-turning traffic at the intersection of High Desert Dr. and West Wing Pkwy. Tomorrow we will be supporting the flow of pedestrain traffic at the corner of High Desert Dr. and West Wing Parkway and training our students to say in a line formation rather than bunching up at the corner and blocking the view of the crossing guards. As with any change it will take a few days for all of us to adjust. We thank each of you for your patience and for providing critical feedback to our team.
To further ensure the safety of our pedestrians, we have taken several measures.
- Crosswalk markings have been freshly painted on High Desert Drive and 84th Drive to clearly indicate designated pedestrian crosswalk.
- Yellow markings have been installed at all traffic lights at the intersection of High Desert and West Wing Parkway which signals to drivers that it is a school crosswalk.
- SCHOOL pavement markings on West Wing Parkway have been ordered by the City of Peoria and will soon be in place.
- The Lollipop gate will now open at 3:25 pm. Please do not arrive before 3:25 pm M-TH or 1:55 pm on Fridays.
- Please remember that there is no stopping, no standing, no parking along High Desert Dr. at anytime during the school day.
- Please never park in the bus lane, especially during the school day. We have buses coming and going for preschool and field trips.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to prioritize the safety of our students and staff. If you have any questions or concerns, please review our arrival and dismissal page on our website. Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Shelly Schubert

We Need More Substitute Teachers
Looking for a flexible job? Becoming a Certified Substitute is the answer! West Wing is in need of additional substitute teachers to fill in when our teachers are out sick or out for professional development. Please consider signing up to help at your child's school. We love having parents as subs and we would love to have you join us this school year! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Shaunna Owsley, our school secretary. She is happy to answer any questions you may have or help you with the process.
We hope you consider this amazing opportunity to impact your child's school! Thank you!

Dear West Wing Parents,
If you feel your child has gifted traits, please register him/her for gifted testing to see if he/she is eligible for gifted services in DVUSD. Registration for the next round of gifted testing is now open. Parents/Guardians must be the ones to register their child. The registration link can be found on the Gifted Services website https://www.dvusd.org/Page/65819. Registration closes January 1, 2024. Testing will take place in February. If you have questions, please contact one of our gifted specialists Natasha Gieber (K-4) or Tiffani Morrison (5-8).
*If you are a parent of a second or fourth grade student, all second and fourth grade students will be tested for gifted. Students in those grade levels do NOT need to be registered for testing. Parents have the option to opt out of testing their child, if they wish. More information about that testing will be coming from the grade level teachers as those testing dates approach. *
