E-TECH Wins Awards: Hillcrest E-TECH was recognized by the P-TECH department for our work in dual credit courses. We were recognized for “Dual-Credit Success Rates” as well as having a “Success Rate over 80%”. This is thanks to our parents for ensuring their child keeps up with schoolwork, our students for putting in the work, and our teachers & counselors who serve as facilitators checking student progress on a weekly basis! Teamwork makes the Dream Work!
Mock Trial Going to State: A Hillcrest student received 2nd place in Mock Trial Court Room Artist Competition! Daniel Garcia received a $100 scholarship, and he will be representing Hillcrest at the State Mock Trial event on March 8-9.
Debate: The Hillcrest debate team, led by E-TECH's own Ms. Hamilton, took 2nd place in their competition!
Athletes Shine:
- Huge congrats to our girls' & boys' basketball teams finishing up their season. Girls will be playing round 1 of playoffs this Monday at Mesquite!
- Twenty two Hillcrest wrestlers competed in the UIL Region 2-5A Regional Championships, and seven are going to the UIL State Championships this weekend. Wrestling will be traveling to the State Championships Feb. 17-18th, including THREE of our E-TECH students: Elijah Guzman, who finished 6th place in the region, Victor Ramirez Silva, who finished in 3rd place, and David Gormley, who finished 1st place in the area! Another Hillcrest student, Alexa Rodriguez, finished in 1st place as well! Amazing job to these outstanding athletes!
- Girls’ soccer is off to a great start putting themselves in the first-place position; boys’ soccer is fighting to keep 3rd place.
- Swimming was also part of regional competition this past week and finished in 8th place.
- The Panaders Dance and Drill Team just participated in this year's HTE Dallas Dance Championship Series and brought home many well-deserved awards!
Testing: Spring is around the corner, and we are gearing up for testing season. We know that academic success is closely related to student attendance, and we ask that absences be avoided to the greatest extent possible.
All 9th and 10th grade students will be taking an EOC Practice exam for English I, II, Biology, Algebra I and US History during the week of March 4th.
All 11th graders will take the SAT exam on March 6th.
We will continue to seek opportunities for our students to take the TSIA2. This test is used by the college to gauge students’ aptitude in reading and math. The test is also a prerequisite for many of the classes the students need to take to achieve their associate degree, which means the students need to take the time to practice. Students can go to https://practice.accuplacer.org/login for practice material.
Seniors: Please make sure all seniors have completed their FAFSA/TASFA as it is a requirement for high school graduation. Also, now is the time for students to get their resumes updated because summer internships are on the horizon. As always, we appreciate your support and dedication to the E-TECH program.
Attendance/Credit Restoration Hours: If your scholar has missed five or more days in any particular class, he/she must complete Attendance for Credit for each of those classes. You may view attendance records in PowerSchool. Click HERE with your child to see if any hours are owed. There will be an opportunity to do hours this Saturdays 9-12 and Tues. Wed. & Thurs. 4:40-5:40pm.
Tardies: For students who are not making it to class on time, a tardy is issued. Once a student has
eight tardies, detention is assigned. Students must attend detention either during lunch or
after school. Please have a conversation with your student about getting to class on time.
Dress Code: During the interview process of becoming an E-TECH student, all families were advised that students are REQUIRED to wear a uniform as part of this choice program. Students are asked to wear their E-TECH uniform on Monday and Wednesday with a spirit shirt on Friday. Please see the dress code requirements on the E-TECH website. For school safety, the student ID badge and clear/mesh backpacks are also a part of the dress code policy. To order uniform replacement items go to: Hillcrest E-Tech – Levines Stores.
