Message From The Principal
Happy Sunday!
Here are just a few thoughts about our "Credit Recovery" program as we move even closer to graduation. (There are still several months to go before graduation...but the time to make progress on credit recovery is now!)
As you're probably aware, all of our students have a period each day devoted to "Credit Recovery". "Credit Recovery" is an actual class in your student's daily schedule. The purpose of that period is to help students earn credits that they need to graduate. During the "Credit Recovery" class students log into a program called "Edgenuity" and are presented with an online course that they can work on during that period. (Students can also continue their work at home if they are so inclined!). The course that is assigned to them is one that they have already taken (and didn't pass) so the content should be somewhat familiar.
The Edgenuity program provides students video lectures, graphics, and information about the subject matter, and allows them to take quizzes along the way to check for understanding. Eventually, they take several culminating exams and (if they pass) they get credit for that course. Then they can move on to the next course that they need to make up. Just so you know, they can study and watch the videos and lectures at home, but they can only take the major tests while at school.
The daily "Credit Recovery" class is THE essential way for students to make up any missed units and narrow the gap between them and their diploma. Many of our seniors have 6, 7 or 8 classes (or more) that they need to take online in order to graduate on time. So, this topic is SUPER RELEVANT to your family if your student is planning on graduating on June 9, 2023.
I would like to encourage you to talk with your student (especially if he/she is a senior) about their "Credit Recovery" class, and check to see what kind of progress they are making. All students are using their school-issued IPADS to take the Edgenuity courses--so your discussion would center on asking your child to show you their IPAD and look for the percent of course completion that is indicated under Edgenuity. Generally speaking, if there's no (or little) progress on these courses, then you should be concerned about whether your student will have all the credits needed for graduation. I don't mean to be an alarmist, but for most students, if they ignore their credit recovery classes they are putting their diploma in jeopardy! Right now (late February) there's still time for students to MAKE IT HAPPEN! My advice is for all students (but especially seniors) to get going on Edgenunity and complete all their required courses.
If you have questions about "Credit Recovery" please let us know. You can find your student's "Credit Recovery" teacher in Infinite Campus and reach out to him/her via email--and I'm always happy to provide more information as well! Our goal is to have all of our seniors graduate on time--and we are working tirelessly to help get them to the finish line. Of course, our seniors will need to work hard and be fully involved as well! Let us know how we can help!
Sincerely,
David Schlottman

FOOD DELIVERY

Teenage years are a critical time when guys and girls make choices that affect the rest of their lives. The empowerment groups provide a safe place where teens can talk about what is really going on in their lives, and a community of mentors and peers who listen, believe in them and help them make better choices. This approach gives teens permission to tell the truth about the challenges all teens face, make their own decisions on how to deal with those challenges, and begin to take responsibility for their choices and the consequences of their actions. It also provided tools needed to navigate through the teen years and transition positively into adulthood.
