NWEA Testing Window to Open Soon - Reminder about Vacations
Silver Springs, along with all Northville elementary schools, frequently monitors data to inform instruction. In addition to the daily formative assessments our teachers use to make in-the-moment decisions, we also administer the NWEA three times a year. It is important that students are in school (and rested!) for these dates. District-wide, we will not be making up NWEA testing that is missed because of vacation unless the data is deemed necessary for MTSS decisions.

BREAKFAST WITH A BUDDY IS JAN. 24 & 25!
This annual event, hosted by the PTA, welcomes all Silver Springs students to bring a buddy (a parent, a grandparent, or a special adult) to enjoy a continental-style breakfast in the cafeteria before school.
The menu is simple and fun: bagels, donuts, juice, and coffee. (Although we wish there was an official PTA chef to serve custom espressos, Eggs Benedict, and Pain au Chocolat, we think the kids will prefer the donuts…)
Please RSVP by Sunday, January 21!
There is no need to RSVP if you do not plan to attend.
For siblings/families whose students have different last names, you are welcome to choose either day and attend together.
If you need to change your RSVP, we ask that you please update on the SignUp Genius.
Please sign up here if your child’s last name begins with the letter A-K, and you plan to attend on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. 8:15 AM -8:45 AM.
Please sign up here if your child’s last name begins with the letter L-Z and you plan to attend on Thursday, January 25, 2024. 8:15 AM -8:45 AM.

LEADER IN ME FOCUS FOR THE MONTH - HABIT 3 PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST
We will focus on Habit 3 throughout the entire month of January.
The Learning At Home Activity is below. This will be in your child's Monday envelope, or you can click on the image below for a printable version.
January At Home Activity
This month’s Habit: Habit 3 Put First Things First
Activity: Big Rocks
Due Date: January 26th
Habit #3 Put First Things First- "Work First, Then Play"
What this means: Focus on what is important, schedule the important things first. Don’t be a dreamer - stay focused!
“I spend my time on things that are most important.”
“I say no to things I know I should not do.”
“I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan.”
“I am disciplined and organized.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. Do your homework as soon as you come home from school.
2. Do something you have been putting off for a long time.
3. Think about your most important responsibilities. Do them first.
Great Books for Habit #3- Put First Things First
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
Pokey and the Spelling Test by Sean Covey
How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss
Whistle for Willie by Ezra Jack Keats
Froggy Gets Dressed by Jonathan London
The Little Red Hen by Paul Galdone

Don’t Scrap the App!
The Michigan School Meals program supplements the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program, meaning that parents of students who would otherwise be eligible for free or reduced meals should continue to submit applications for free or reduced meals for their students. Even though meals will be free this year, it is vitally important that parents who meet, or believe they may meet, the free and reduced income guidelines, submit an application to ensure maximum benefits for their students and the District.
Some of these benefits include: athletics and activities discounts for student fees associated with participating in athletics and activities programs, SAT/ACT/AP test discounts for academic testing, college application discounts for college application fees, discounted internet access services, federal/state/local school funding for school budgets, Summer EBT.
