Digital Equity Plan - 30 Day Comment Period
November 9 - December 9, 2023
Too many communities in Alaska lack access to high-speed internet. Many more face affordability barriers. There is a stark divide between those who have internet access and those who don't. Digital equity means all have access to reliable and affordable high-speed internet to access education, healthcare, employment, and participate in today’s economy. Starting November 9, 2023, and running through December 9, 2023, the Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development (DCCED), Alaska Broadband Office (ABO), is seeking public comment on the State of Alaska’s Digital Equity Plan.
The Digital Equity Act provides $2.75 billion nationwide to establish grant programs that promote digital equity and inclusion. In advance of “Capacity Grant Awards” (managed by the State of Alaska ABO) the Rasmuson Foundation and their partners over the last year have collected and compiled data and drafted the initial State of Alaska Digital Equity Plan. Attached is that document with State of Alaska Departmental review.
The document outlines the inequities that exist in the state and develops Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that are focused on reducing or eliminating digital inequity for eight covered populations identified in the Digital Equity Act.
Those populations are:
- Individuals with Disabilities
- Individuals with a Language Barrier
- Individuals who are Members of a Racial or Ethnic Minority
- Individuals who Reside in Rural Areas
- Aging Individuals
- Veterans
- Households at/or below 150% of the Poverty Level
- Incarcerated Individuals
The State of Alaska’s Digital Equity plan and comment form are linked below for public review and comment. All interested parties are invited to submit comments on the Plan using the linked comment form by December 9, 2023.

Cooper Landing School Updates
Christmas Performance
We are pleased to bring you our annual Christmas Movie Premiere on December 14 at 6:00 pm in the Cooper Landing School gymnasium. Please be sure to invite your friends and neighbors to this community event. All are welcome!
Students should arrive at 5:45 and the performance will start promptly at 6:00. We will begin with caroling followed by the video performance. It’s possible that Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance!
We would like to follow up the performance with a dessert bar and coffee. If you are able, please bring a dessert to share.
We look forward to seeing you there!
PAC Officers
We are in need of a PAC president, secretary, and treasurer. It sometimes becomes difficult to conduct the business of the PAC without officers. Please consider volunteering.
Swags
We are still waiting on our pine boughs from Cadre Feed. They told me the ferry ran into bad weather on its way here and had to park it in a cove for a few days. Rest assured, as soon as we get the boughs, all the little elves will be hard at work. Thank you for your patience!
Price is $25 each. Please email Donna at dtucker@kpbsd.org or call 595-1244 to order yours. No need to pre pay. Thanks for your support!
Dates to Remember
- Thursday December 7, 3:30-4:30 - First Semester Title 1 Activity, followed by the PAC meeting at 5:00. The PAC meeting had previously been scheduled for December 14, but has been rescheduled due to the Christmas Performance.
- Friday, December 8 - Early release. Students will be dismissed at 1:45.
- Thursday, December 14, 6:00 - Annual Christmas Performance
- Monday, December 18 - Tuesday, January 2 - Christmas Break. Students are back to school on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

AUCTION NEWS
The auction was a success! The PTO was very pleased with the results. Our students did an amazing job of auctioning all of the holiday treats. It was an exciting and happy event. I think some of our students have real auctioning skills. We are all proud of them. We are equally as proud of or parents, staff and community members. They took the time and made the investments to ensure our students event was amazing. Thank you from our school to each of you.
MAPS TESTING
Your students will have testing for three days next week. Please make sure they arrive on time, eat a healthy breakfast and get a good nights sleep. These are things we can all do to help our students to have a more settled and successful testing time.
