This is a scary time.

We know there is a lot of uncertainty right now, as families scramble to make or change plans and prepare to deal with the coronavirus (COVID-19), and try to keep up with ever-evolving news and updates.


We know this can be especially challenging as more and more schools close down for extended periods, leaving parents and children trying to create a new normal at home.

You’re not alone.

Even while we’re complying with “social distancing” guidelines, there’s a wealth of online resources you can take advantage of to keep children occupied and engaged.


Through our work with educators and school systems – providing online virtual trainings, and tools designed for use in and outside classroom – we’ve become familiar with some great resources that we’d like to share with you. Some come from well-known names (at least one that should be very familiar); others are hidden gems. Some are free; others are offering discounted rates to support learning during the pandemic.


One of our core beliefs is that education does not have to stop with the classroom – especially now, when many classrooms are off-limits. Take a look at the suggestions below, and let the learning begin.

Google Workbench

Students and educators can set up a free account, and gain access to a HUGE library of free lessons. TechTerra Education (along with many of our other educational partners) has a number of lessons available on the platform utilizing objects and resources you already have at home. Google Science Journal

No child wants to be stuck inside all day. Here’s a way to be outside, explore, and get some exercise, all while learning with Google Science Journal. This free app brings the power of science into your pocket. Students can record observations, conduct science experiments, utilize open-source code, and more. Socratic

Not sure how to help your child with their at-home work? Get un-stuck from learning with free help from Socratic. Just scan your homework question and the app's AI technology will provide educational resources including videos, definitions, and Q&As to help your student along (without you answering the question for them).

SkyView Lite

Another great free resource to get your children outside, SkyView® Lite brings the stars down to earth. Simply point your iPhone, iPad, or iPod at the sky to identify stars, constellations, satellites, and more. Take a break from all the worksheets and start exploring.

TechTerra Online STEM Academy

Techterra Education has created a STEM Academy for students in kindergarten through eighth grade – an online destination filled with engaging programs for kids, all led by live instructors. TechTerra also offers scholarships to families in need. Registration is open now, and we are offering a special Spring 2020 discount.
