PINK OUT!
Southwest High School celebrated their annual Pink Out Game to bring awareness to breast cancer. Less than 5 percent of breast cancer occurs in women under 40. At age 30, the risk of developing breast cancer is 0.44 percent.
Overall, the average risk of a woman in the United States developing breast cancer sometime in her life is about 13%. This means there is a 1 in 8 chance she will develop breast cancer.
Currently, there are more than 3.8 million women who are living with or beyond breast cancer in the United States. It is estimated that 43,700 deaths (43,170 women and 530 men) from breast cancer will occur in the United States in 2023. Worldwide, female breast cancer is the fifth leading cause of death.

Magical Fairytales Display
Have you ever wished you could go back to your childhood and indulge in the wonders of magic and fairytales? If so, you can! Drop by the library to visit Mr. Dreamkowski's Magical Fairytales Display. Mr. Dreamkowski, better know as Mr. D, is a welcomed edition to the library staff. At his previous library, he was well known for his displays and this display is one on his favorites.
“If you want your kids to be intelligent, read them fairy tales, if you want them to be more intelligent read them more fairy tales.” This quote by Albert Einstein sums up the benefits of fairytales. “Fairy tales help stir imagination which builds creativity. It’s going to help them, hopefully, be more creative and take them back to their childhood. The thing for me, as an adult, is that you never want to lose sight of your childhood. You’re getting older and never getting younger so why rush to grow up when we can still enjoy these fun stories? So it’s (this display and fairytales) all about holding onto our childhood and building up our creativity.”
“The dolls are an investment; when you hear about people who bought old Star Wars toys back when I was a kid and now those toys are worth how much? Yeah, little figures worth thousands and thousands of dollars. This was a little fun investment that me and my wife did for our daughter and our future grandchildren. We bought these collectibles and instead of opening them up to be played with, we kept them sealed. Hopefully, it’ll pay off for whenever we need something.
The Harry Potter series was written by lady who was broke and had problems and who didn’t give up on her dreams of writing something fun. The same with Wizard of Oz. We keep holding onto that part of our heritage through movies, books, and the merchandise that went with it.
