Nixon Elementary Weekly Update
October 9, 2023
First, I want to say thank you...
Nixon Families,
I wanted to start my weekly memo with a big THANK YOU! You truly are amazing and I am so proud to work with you and your children, never more so than this past week. I am so amazed at how responsive everyone was to our request to not send backpacks to school, and I am equally impressed with your diligence in sending your children back to us. For many this event was scary and uncertain, and I am so grateful for the grace of every parent I engaged with this past week. Some had questions, others just needed clarification, but 100% of the families I spoke with were respectful and kind to me, despite the fear some people had. I am beyond grateful to lead this school, especially when I have such an amazing community to support and care for. Thank you for your compassion and understanding this past week.
I am looking forward to going back to school in our typical way. Backpacks ARE welcome back starting Monday, we will NOT check lunch boxes, and we will continue to use the front door as our main point of entry just like we always have.
Thank you again for being so wonderful this past week. I am grateful for each of you.

VIP Breakfast is THIS WEEK!
Now, on to some reminders!
- October 9 is a No School Day: Just a reminder that we do NOT have school on Monday October 9 due to a staff learning day. Please reach out to our main office if you have any questions: 319-558-2188.
- Nixon VIP Breakfast: The Nixon PTA is hosting our annual VIP breakfast on October 11 & 12. Just a reminder that VIPs stay with their learner until 8:30 when they are able to go see the classrooms and say goodbye.
- Conferences are Coming: Last week your child should have brought home a yellow slip of paper with information about your upcoming conference on either Monday, October 16 or Wednesday, October 18. Please ask your child for the paper to double check your scheduled time. If you have a conflict with your time, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher to reschedule.
- Nixon Food Pantry: The Nixon Food Pantry has been open for several weeks and we want to make sure YOU know about this service. We have various shelf-stable food items, as well as fresh items like fruit and bread. Please stop by on Fridays from 2:30-3:00 if you have a need for any of these items.
It's a great day to be a Bobcat!

Expectation Celebration # 2 is October 25!
All learners with 0 office referrals between September 15 and October 25, will be able to participate in our Nixon Bounce and Slide fun on October 25th. We'll be bringing in inflatables for learners to play on as a way to celebrate their outstanding Bobcat behavior.
We look forward to live streaming that event on October 25, as well as celebrating all of the learners who were able to not receive any major office referrals that month.
