No School - EHS offices will be closed

Eagan High School teachers will be available for Zoom conferencing for students in their Winter Trimester classes. Teachers will be sending out an email through CAMPUS Messenger prior to conference times and dates. Appointment are typically not offered – although some teachers may choose to offer those – but rather open Zoom time. If you wish to meet with teachers please use the Zoom link they share with you in the email and join that room. You may wait to be admitted in that Zoom room but usually you will be admitted very quickly.

DETAILS:

• Email from teachers who work with your student on or before Thursday, January 21
• Zoom rooms open for drop in 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday, January 21
• Zoom rooms open for drop in 8:00 – 10:00 AM Friday, January 22 - No school in session on Friday, January 22.

The purpose of the section of this newsletter is to provide you with relevant information and timelines related to our “online” registration process for next school year. We are looking with hopeful optimism to all of us being back in school when the 2021-22 school year begins in September. We will be registering in anticipation of this full return, but please know that the district is also actively working with the state of Minnesota on the potential of the continued pandemic-related digital learning options. We are asking students to register as normal for now, anticipating a return to school in the fall.

Given our current circumstances, this approach is new for all of us, so we appreciate your patience as we go through the process of getting your student registered for the 2021-22 school year.

Please keep these dates and times as priorities:

January 18

Feel free to start scanning the various EHS curricular offerings for your student. The EHS Student Registration Guide is online on the EHS web site: https://ehs.district196.org/. Parents can go to the website, scroll down and click on the “Register Online” icon

January 26

Current 9th, 10th and 11th graders will meet in their PAWS classes to receive additional information and instructions related to the “online” registration process. Students will also watch a video geared specifically toward their grade level. We will also make those videos available on the website after the premier on January 26. The registration window will open on this day and be open for 1 week.

January 28

Counselor zooms will be open for drop-in questions from 1-2 PM.

January 29

Current 9th, 10th and 11th graders will watch two videos in their PAWS class. One will focus on elective offerings at EHS and the other will focus on the ISD 196 Career Development program offerings for juniors and seniors.

February 1

Counselor zooms will be open for drop-in questions from 1-2 PM.

February 2

The registration window closes at 11:59 PM.

I just need 5 minutes of your time.

I am struggling this winter… there is so much negativity, so much division, so much hate, and so much fighting in our community and across our nation. This struggle prompted me to look for inspiration. Two of the things that inspire me most are kids and music. So, with that, a project was born, because… who doesn’t need more to do??? With the help from an outside editor, this video came to life and the kids dove in and created something amazing. I see this project as one way to change my little corner of the world… to inspire hope, love, and to “shed a little light” to those around us.

EHS Choirs

ENCORE! 2021 Auditions happen next week. Auditions are January 19 & 20th, from 1:30-5:00pm in the Multipurpose Room (Room 81).

ENCORE! 2021 will be open to all students who want to audition. You will be required to be masked for the audition and throughout the rehearsal process. Rehearsals will be 2:00-5:00pm weekdays January 25-April 9, 2021.

Sign up for a time and fill out the audition form and submit it before Monday, Jan. 18 at 11:59pm. Then pick one of the audition songs and practice, practice, practice. Come fully prepared. Each audition slot is 3 min, so that is how much time you have to impress the directors.

All students are eligible for free seven-day meal kits to support their distance learning. To best meet the needs of our families, meal kits will be available for pick up near the middle/ high schools’ south entrance doors at these times:

· Monday 4:00pm- 5:30pm

· Tuesday 7:30am- 9:00am

· Wednesday 10:00am- 11:00am (Digital Academy Meals will continue)

· Thursday 7:30am- 9:00am

· Friday 10:00am- 11:00am

Look for the banner and sign for the distribution location. Families with children in multiple schools are encouraged to pick-up all seven-day meal kits at one school.

Initially, families will be asked to complete this Seven-Day Meal Kit Interest Survey. This will allow the Food and Nutrition Services department to prepare the number of meal kits needed. The survey only needs to be completed once.

The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture has authorized funding for schools to provide meals at no charge to children, 18 and younger, for the entire school year. All secondary families are encouraged to participate in this opportunity. Any child 18 and younger, or parent/guardian of a child is able pick up these seven-day meal kits. For contactless distribution, the seven-day meal kit boxes will be placed on a 6-foot table with a bag of milk on the side. Families will be able to take as many boxes as needed for their children. Food and Nutrition Staff will monitor and replenish the table as needed.

Our South Entry Doors, specifically Door #1, and vestibule remain open from 7:30 AM - 6 PM each weekday for pick up or drop off of books, materials or other items.We have a large supply of school supplies and would be pleased to provide them for any student or family. Please let us know if a student needs to pick up a book, textbook or other items so that we can provide it for them. Call 651-683-6900. Additionally, the offices are open each school day and students may come into the building for assistance. Masks are required at all times in the building.

We partner with Genesys Works, an organization that provides opportunities for students to work in meaningful, paid internships at top Twin Cities corporations. They also provide support in helping students develop a post-high school plan that fits with their hopes and dreams.

At Genesys Works, your student can pursue opportunities and invest in their future by participating in:

• A free 8 week Summer Institute.
  • It’s an opportunity to gain real-world skills like public speaking, Microsoft Office, business technology, teamwork, and more –and they’ll earn college credit!
• A paid yearlong internship.
  • It’s a paid corporate internship where students will work for 12 months at one of the top companies in the Twin Cities like 3M, Medtronic, Target, or Ameriprise Financial earning $15,000 their senior year!
• College and Career Connections programming.
  • It’s creating and implementing a specific plan for their futures as students will work with Genesys Works on how to accomplish what they want to do after they graduate high school
• Alumni Programming.
  • It’s access to a long-lasting network that ensures students will have opportunities to enter internships, attend workshops, and build a network with Twin Cities professionals.

They are seeking students who are interested in having a successful professional career and want to be exposed to a business environment before starting college. While their internships are technology and business focused, they do not require any prior knowledge of technology or business to be a part of the program. Genesys Works will teach participants everything they need to know.
