UELF WEEKLY
Sept. 19-23, 2022
UELF Walk-A-Thon Is Rockin'!
UELF students walked for 90 minutes on Friday and many tallied 3 or more miles. Look at your child's t-shirt.... 5 tallies = 1 mile... All walking logs are due in the classroom on Monday, Sept. 19. Classes are competing for the highest participation award, the Golden Sneaker, which means the class with all their logs turned in and with the most minutes walked. Cash/check pledges are due in the classroom on Monday, Sept. 19. The 99Pledges Link will stay open until Friday. Share the link with local businesses and shops that you frequent. Attached is a donation letter plus the link.
Thank you to Craig Davis Orthodontics for donating $300 towards our walk-a-thon. We appreciate the support from our local businesses.
Remember, every student is another person's bundle of joy...Drive like your child is watching and learning from you. Every person picking up their child has somewhere they need to be after school. Each of us have important and busy schedules. Put on music while you are waiting, observe the students, I promise they will make you giggle with their high intensity energy, and use your breath to slow down your brain. Thank you for remembering we are a school for students.
Simón Silva - Creativity Through the Arts
ALL UELF Families are invited to participate in an evening workshop with Simón Silva!
Simón Silva was born in Mexicali, Mexico, and grew up in the Imperial Valley near the Mexico/California border. Silva’s family were migrant farm workers, and he worked the fields from elementary school until he was twenty-three. Simón Silva’srenowned artwork has appeared in many distinguished places around the world, and his workshop, “Cultivate a Creative Mind,” with educators, families, and students of all ages encourages participants to communicate using their natural artistic talent. Silva believes honing your artistic talent provides society with an opportunity to move forward with better communication skills and problem-solving capabilities. The message he hopes to spread is that everyone is important, and each of us has a piece of the solution, and it's our obligation to make a difference in the world.
Planning to go on a field trip or volunteer in your child's class?
ALL volunteers must complete the CRPUSD Volunteer Registration Process, which includes fingerprinting. Please complete the application form and get yourself fingerprinted. This MUST be completed before you can volunteer. Once this is completed, you are clear for the duration of your child's school experience in CRPUSD, including high-school and middle school!
Words From Principal Lunde
Checking In...
How is the school year going? We are one month into the year so classroom routines are in play, class units of learning are into the meat of the learning and the students are grinding out reading, writing and math problem solving tasks. Ways to support this deeper thinking is by having the following routines and expectations at home:
- bedtime that promotes your child getting 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night
- beverages that are minimal sugar, pushing water as the main drink
- reading together as a family every day
- exercising for 30+ minutes a day
- limiting screen time /game screens to 30 to 45 minutes a day
- monitoring screen time - KNOW what your child is watching!
- cuddle time....the kiddos need the assurance that you're there
- morning routines to get to school on time
- be at school - refrain from "just staying home" - students need to build their stamina to stick with it
School? Why should my kid attend?
Participating in the full school day provides your student with the opportunity to create a sense of belonging in their learning. When they miss a day or leave early, it disrupts their flow, they miss elements of their projects and they develop a sense of disconnect. Being sick or getting those much needed medical appointments are understood, however think twice when it comes to picking up your child early for social events, convenience or just because. It does have an impact on student learning and especially student engagement.
