Mark your calendar for your child's Back to Night! You will meet the teacher(s), learn about the academic goals and ways to support your child's success this year. All parents are also encouraged to attend the Title 1 Annual Public Meeting from 4:15-4:45 pm or on Friday, 9/22 from 9:15-9:45 am. See the BTS Event Flyer for details.

Parent Voices Matter! Powell is in the process of electing new members to the School Site Council (SSC) for the 2023-2024 school year. The SSC reviews and updates Powell's Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) including expenditures of funds. The SSC must develop, approve, and recommend the plan to the local governing board for approval, monitor its implementation and evaluate the effectiveness at least annually. Members of the SSC include the principal, three teachers, one other school staff member, and five parents. Members of the SSC are elected by their peers, therefore parents are elected by parents. A member serves for two years. This year, Powell must elect three parents to the SSC. Please consider joining the Powell SSC to be a part of our continuous improvement. Meetings are held once a month on Wednesdays at 3:30 pm. If you are interested in nominating yourself for SSC, please submit this nomination form by September 15, 2023. Elections will be held at Back to School Night on September 21, 2023.

Remember, this is just a nomination form; the parent election will determine the 3 new elected parents.

Parents of English Language Learners are encouraged to join the ELAC Committee. The purpose is to share the unique needs and experiences of students learning English. Committee members advise the school on programs to support the success of English Learners at Powell. Meetings are scheduled once per month, on Fridays at 9:30 am.

We NEED every parent/guardian to complete this required information by this Friday, September 15. Our school funding depends on this information being submitted by families each year. Please call our office if you need help:

Thank you for planning to get your child to school on-time, in uniform and prepared to learn every day this year. At Powell, we value parents/guradians as the first, most important teachers in the life of a child. We are your partner on their journey through Powell, into high school, college, careers and beyond. Please set high expectations for your child's Attitude, Attendance and Achievement. Together, we can ensure they achieve success!

Thank you for your efforts sending students to school in uniform. It helps us set the focus for learning. on our campus. As a reminder, uniform at Powell consists of:

• Navy blue or black shorts, pants, skirts, shorts or jumpers
• White, red or blue shirts with collars
• Powell Spirit Wear shirts may be worn any day

Middle School students will be expected to wear their school ID and lanyard every day.

FREE UNIFORMS for ALL STUDENTS: Please be on the look out for a hard copy of uniform order form being sent home by the counselor, Mr. Arreola.

This week marks the 22nd year anniversary of the 9/11 coordinated terrorist attacks against the United States in 2001. On Monday, we will commemorate those who lost their lives on 9-11-2001 and encourage our students to become global-change makers seeking peace between and among nations. I believe in each of our students to make this world a better place.

You might be wondering how to talk with your children about this tragic day and it's relevance in our country's history. Here are two videos that can help parents to engage in crucial conversations about what happened, what were the effects and how we can learn from the past.
