A Message From Mr. Loversky
Dear WMS Parents:
I know there is a lot of information coming your way. My job is to “operationalize” that information into action steps and into smaller bites that make it easier for our families to understand. With that in mind, here are some details of our opening days. And now that we have a secure start, I want to run you through some things that will be happening in the first few days in person at WMS.
On our Remote Planning and Institute Days (August 13-18), teachers will be working and planning to meet the social-emotional and academic needs of your students in both their teams and content area professional learning communities. Our goal is to ensure all students, whether in person or remote, access rigorous learning experiences in a safe environment.
For our students and parents, some nuts and bolts:
I will continue to communicate with you frequently. Please continue to read everything I send. I will do my best to consolidate and only repeat vital information.
All students will begin learning on Thursday, August 19. I will send more information as to what that will look like.
Please make sure with 100% accuracy that your child knows what group they are in and only attend in-person school on that identified date.
Our groups/days are: 6A, 6B, 7A, 7B, 8A, 8B, Remote A, and Remote B.
Our Rise students attend half-day, in-person Aug 19, 20, 21, and full-day in-person Aug 24.
Our Oasis students are in-person full day starting on the 19th.
A few days before school starts, I will send videos that we ask you to watch with your child. These 2-3 minute videos help us make sure the start of the year is very smooth. We will also review them during the first few days of school.
Bus schedules will be available on Bus Route (e-Link) sometime on August 12, 2020. Use your HAC (Home Access Center) sign in to login.
When do I send my child to school?
The new plan has no half days, except for our Rise students.
You MUST make sure that your child knows their group.
Click on this link to see a day-by-day listing of who comes to school for the first 7 days.
When can I see my child’s schedule?
As of right now, plan on looking at it on the day before school starts - Tuesday, August 18. If we are able to open it earlier, we will. We will give students plenty of time during the day to find their schedule and become familiar with the building. We are planning our first days with this concern in mind!
What does my Child need to bring the first day?
Our goal is to get some materials here to school and left in classrooms, and then make sure that backpacks are kept light for carrying around each period. We will not expect students to carry any textbooks. Here is what we would like kids to bring:
Please note that teachers will direct students, by class, what to bring day 2, and so on, with the goal of keeping backpacks light and some materials in the classroom.
Once school resumes full in-person, we will ask students to bring in the rest of their materials.
Can I drop my child off early?
Unfortunately not. Our building will be closed until 8:20 AM when buses arrive.
Will there be some clubs and activities?
Yes! We will work with some staff to have a variety of activities, typically done remotely, for our students to participate in and connect with their peers in social settings.
