Dear SVDP Community,
As you probably know Mayor London Breed has announced that schools can reopen on September 21, 2020. While this is exciting news, any school that will be allowed to reopen has to be fully approved to do so. Through the waiver application, we are way ahead in the process and are scheduled for our health department inspection on Friday, September 18, 2020.
One of two things will happen based on the inspection:
- We will be provided additional recommendations / requirements to improve the facilities for reopening. We will make those adjustments as quickly as possible.
- We will be approved and be allowed to commence with a staggered reopening. The staggered start will allow us to slowly introduce the students to the hybrid model and the protocols necessary to keep all of us healthy and safe.
We know you are asking, “When can my child return to campus?” At this moment, we cannot answer that question, but our entire team is working on reopening as safely and as quickly as possible. As mentioned in previous communications, this reopening will start with the lower grades and in a perfect world as early as Thursday, September 24, 2020. This date is entirely based on approval by the health department.
We are considering all the survey data collected thus far --- thank you for continuing to communicate your intent, concerns, and questions. The most recent survey was completed by 146 families. The data remained consistent and even more positive. The majority of parents and staff feel comfortable with our reopening plans, our steps to reduce the risk of COVID-19, and our ability at address an occurrence of COVID-19.
While we await the inspection, we ask that you think about your family situation and whether or not you want your student to return to campus. During the registration process, you were able to indicate preferences for cohort formations and your intent to return. Next week, we will be asking you to finalize your intent. Remember, your decision will be a commitment through the first trimester, ending on November 13.
