The Wilmot Word: September 22, 2023
Reminder - No School On Monday, September 25
An Awesome Week at Wilmot
What a week we had! Last night Wilmot was the featured school for What's Good in 109, at the Board of Education meeting. In addition to other highlights Mrs. Ray and four fabulous second graders presented information from their current social studies unit on meeting wants and needs through an understanding of communities and how we work together.
Another highlight of the week was our student council elections. We had 17 students run for the four elected offices. These students shared very creative campaign posters and delivered truly thoughtful speeches with ideas for fundraisers, community service and fun activities for Wilmot students. I am so proud of all of our candidates and want to thank Mrs. Salzer for leading our student council. Congratulations to our new officers.

Bus Passes Will Be Checked Starting on Tuesday, 9-25-23
If your student rides the bus, make sure that they have their pass on them. Drivers will begin checking for these next week! If you have any questions, contact transportation@dps109.org.
Save the Date - Parent Teacher Conferences (2nd posting)
Mark your calendars! Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 26th from 1:00-4:00 pm & 5:00-8:00 pm and on Friday, October 27th from 8:30-11:30 am. All DPS109 schools will hold in-person parent-teacher conferences this year with an option to Zoom for parents/guardians who are not available for an in-person conference. Parents will sign up for a conference using Sign-Up Genius. I will share links for all teacher sign-up forms on Thursday, September 28th, at 5:00pm.
It is best practice to hold one parent conference per child, to ensure that both parents receive the same information regarding their child’s strengths and needs. Therefore, I ask that parents sign up for one joint conference per student. If this is a concern, please reach out to me directly. We look forward to seeing all of our parents during conferences. Conferences are a discussion between parents and teachers. At this time elementary conferences do not include students and therefore we ask that children not attend the parent-teacher conference.
Upcoming Safety Exercise (1st posting)
On October 6, 2023, District 109 staff, who all train ALICE annually, will review the ALICE procedures with students. Students in grades K-3 will read a book, “I’m Not Scared, I’m Prepared,” followed by a discussion with their teacher; students in grades 4-8 will watch a short screencast that reviews the different components of ALICE, and they will discuss how they would respond to various situations. District 109 does not conduct unannounced drills, and we do not simulate any type of danger or violence. Students will not notice any sort of extra law enforcement presence in their school. If you have any questions, please contact me or our district Director of Safety & Security, Solveig Jurmu at sjurmu@dps109.org.
