Principal Kim Monette's End of Year Message
It is hard to believe that summer is almost upon us. I hope that you and your family find the time to explore the beautiful state of Minnesota and the many offerings that it provides. If traveling is not in your summer plans, perhaps a good book, a trip to the park, beach, pool, local library, or other venues are sure to bring new experiences to you and your family.
Finally, I wish all our BMS families and staff the very best for the summer holiday and look forward to welcoming you all back for the 2023-24 school year, relaxed and refreshed for what promises to be another outstanding year at Brooklyn Middle STEAM School.
Have a great summer!
Kim Monette, Principal
ALL SCHOOL FAMILY PICNIC
Lunch schedule is:
A-lunch 11:25 - 11:53
B-lunch 11:54 - 12:22
C-lunch 12:22 - 12:50
IMPORTANT ELECTRONIC DEVICE REMINDER
If students have these items on them during the school day they will be asked to put them in their lockers or turned in to the office. These items have become a chronic issue and distraction for some students during the school day. We want students to be focused on learning when they are at school. PLEASE NOTE that if students cell phone and other electronic device misuse continue to be an issue, and students are not able to comply with the electronic device policy, their device will be confiscated and a parent will need to come to school to pick it up. We want all students to be engaged in their learning while they are at school these last few weeks.
We greatly appreciate your help in reminding your student the importance of staying focused on learning while at school.
CHROMEBOOK COLLECTION JUNE 6TH
Student’s school-issued device, case, charging block, and charging cord will need to be returned this spring. We will be collecting these items at Brooklyn Middle School on June 6, 2023. All devices will be stored safely over the summer and be returned in the fall.
On June 6, 2023, the device will be inspected by district personnel and missing items will appear as fees in SmartSchoolK12 for students in grades 9 and 12.
Thank you for supporting our digital learning vision and we look forward to more great learning opportunities next year.
Building a Better Future, Phase II ballot question: Addressing school needs to provide learning spaces that are secure, modern and structured to equip students for tomorrow
A big thank you goes out to everyone who volunteered countless hours to closely analyzing the needs of all our schools.
Phase II, which in addition to addressing critical school building needs, expands on efforts already made in Phase I and continues strategic plan work. The priorities in this portion of the plan are:
Secure learning environments with enhanced safety.
Spaces for math, science and career programs, specialized learning services and growing student populations.
Access to similar learning experiences at all district schools, including program opportunities, class size levels and the functionality of spaces.
It’s been more than 20 years since the community has been asked to reinvest in school building needs. Voters made their voices heard during Phase I of the Building a Better Future plan – education is a priority to our community. Now, voters can make their voices heard again on Nov. 7, 2023 by considering these school building needs. If the ballot question is approved, the tax increase would be less than $7/month for the average-value home in our district ($300,000).
This final phase of Building a Better Future meets the overall needs of our schools for the foreseeable future – equipping students with what they need to succeed both today and many years to come.
Visit district279.org/BetterFuture for additional details, a look at both phases of Building a Better Future and answers to frequently asked questions.

SUMMER READING
Make reading a part of your summer!
Have you asked your child what they have been reading for fun or enjoyment lately? Asking this one question can share that you value reading as well as a belief that reading can or should be enjoyable, even if you might not get a response from your child.
The middle school years can be critical years for students to continue engaging in positive reading experiences and growing their reading endurance. Just like when playing sports, students get better with practice, reading for longer periods of time and persisting through the slow parts to get to the information or exciting parts of story. Whether it is a book from the local public library, a bookstore, or borrowed from a friend, try to make time and an opportunity for your child to read and select materials that interest them this summer.
There are also many digital resources that are easy to obtain with a cell phone or other devices. Visit our Reading Resources website created by Osseo Area School’s Library Media Specialists at our middle and high schools to find out more about accessing eBooks and audiobooks this summer.
Honor's Night
BMS celebrated 258 high honor students in a wonderful program followed by a cake reception. These students maintained a 3.66 GPA or higher throughout the school year.
Congratulations to each of our high honor students!
