Youth Truth Survey Live Now!
I am asking for ~15 minutes of your time to complete an online survey that will help us improve Murwood Elementary. We have asked YouthTruth – a nonprofit organization that supports hundreds of schools and districts across the country – to conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf.
Please take the survey before it closes at midnight onFebruary 23rd by clicking this link: ytsurvey.org/wcsdfamily24.
Once you have completed the survey, please send a note/print out of the submitted page for your child to receive a popsicle!
Spelling Bee
Congratulations to our Spelling Bee winner, 5th Grader, Parsa K. Our 10 finalists participated in an exciting Spelling Bee. Everyone worked so very hard and definitely met the challenge.
Black History Month
February is Black History Month. This month teachers will be including lessons and read alouds for Black History Month. This is a wonderful time to celebrate the contributions and achievements of Black Americans. Ms. Lauren, has had a spotlight on authors and illustrators. This week she introduced Oge Mora, author and illustrator. Check out pictures below of Ms. Lauren reading to our 5th graders.
WCEF needs a Murwood Site Rep, or two!
Did you know the state does not fund our weekly art, music and science lab classes at Murwood? Donations to WCEF do, and WCEF needs you! We are looking for 1-2 Site Reps to help build awareness of what WCEF donors make possible (Art, Music, and Science Lab) at Murwood and support events like Back to School Night, the Read-a-thon and Turn Up the Heat. You get to work with your principal, and hear directly from district superintendents at WCEF Board meetings. It's a great way to support your child's education, your school and our community!
Turn Up The Heat!
Teachers are sending home a flier and red envelope from the Walnut Creek Education Foundation (WCEF) in the coming week! WCEF, the district’s fundraising partner, needs to raise much-needed funds for our school’s art, music, and science lab programs. State funding is not enough to provide these weekly programs for all students. Our community funds these programs through donations to WCEF so please give what you can the week of Feb. 5 during our Turn Up the Heat campaign!
We will also wear red on Wednesday, Feb. 7 and celebrate WCEF and our school! Every gift adds up to make more possible for all students. Thank you! You can learn more about WCEF at wcefk12.org.
Stay dry out there!

Notes From The Office
Independent Study Contracts (ISC)
If your child is going to miss a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 14 school days, we recommend that you request an Independent Study Contract. The contract provides several benefits: your child will receive academic and attendance credit and the school will receive the ADA. For more information and to request an ISC please click HERE. Please note that ISCs must be requested at least one week in advance of the start of the student’s absence and is due the first day the student returns to school. We strongly encourage families to take advantage of our numerous school breaks and holidays when scheduling vacations, etc. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
Thank you.

Multicultural Night - February 22nd
**Please note that the date of this event has changed from 2/8 to 2/22!!**
Join us for an evening to celebrate the diversity within our Murwood community! This is a potluck event, so please click here to sign up to bring a dish to share which represents your heritage. No nuts, please! Bringing a dish is not required to attend.
We hope to have a few performances throughout the evening. If you are part of a group which performs something culturally significant to you and would like to take the stage and share with our community, please email us at murwoodelementarypta@gmail.com
It’s almost time to Turn Up The Heat for our schools!
WCEF's annual Turn Up the Heat fundraiser is February 5-9. Our ask is $825 per student, but give what you can to help us get to 100% family participation and $1.5 million! Every gift counts!
Why should you donate?
Your donations stay at your school and fund programs and classes that otherwise do not exist - and the state does not fund.
Together we all support grades TK-12 - ensuring a comprehensive education from the first day to graduation day.
Donating is easy: donate online or via Venmo, or drop cash or a check in the red envelope with the form sent home on February 5.
Every gift matters.
WCEF is looking for volunteers for 2024-25
