Announcements for the week of 8.27.23
Visitors in the Building: Parents, as a reminder, we cannot allow any visitors in the building from 7:05-8:00 am as a safety precaution. Parents may drop off at the main entrance or the main office but may NOT pass the main office. A Galindo staff member will walk your child to class. Visitors are welcome in the building after 8:00 am with a visitor badge from the office. Please bring your ID to check in with the main office and help us ensure our students' safety.
PK Fundraiser: This week PK4 will be having a fundraiser to raise money for their field trips! They will be selling slap bracelets and stickers! Thanks for your support!
PTA Meeting: Join us for our first PTA meeting this Monday! We will jump right into action and decorate our PTA bulletin board while we discuss our upcoming plans. Meet in Ms. Melanie's room at 3:30p on Monday!
PTA Membership: PTA is hosting a membership Drive! PTA is focused on making every child's potential a reality by strengthening education and taking a comprehensive approach to community success. And we know there is no commYOUnity without YOU – our members, our families, our decision-makers. Families can pay with cash or Venmo (in person). The cost is $10. The class with the highest percentage of families that become members will win an ice cream party. The teacher will get a Kendra Scott gift and we will raffle another Kendra Scott gift among the parents that join at the end of September.
Lock Down Drill: This week we have our first Lock Down Drill on Thursday. Parents, it's a good idea to talk to your child before this drill and explain that it is important to have a plan to help keep each other safe. Explain to your child that a lockdown drill is very similar to a fire drill. It’s something the schools use just in case of an emergency and for practice because practice makes perfect! You can even compare practicing drills to wearing a helmet or seat belt. You do these things to be safe, just in case there’s an accident or your child falls off their bike. These things may never happen, but if they do, you’re protected.
Here are the steps that we do during this drill.
- We will announce the drill on the PA system
- After the announcement, teachers will turn off your lights, and have students out of sight and not all clumped together
- Teachers will have students remain quiet during the drill while the safety staff check your doors. This drill should not take longer than 5 minutes.
- We will announce when it is over on the PA system.
- Any student who feel nervous or overwhelmed can talk to a counselor or principal before or after the drill.
CAC Meeting: Join us for our first CAC meeting this Thursday at 4:30p. The Campus Advisory Council, or CAC, is a group of teachers and parents who meet monthly to give Ms. Barreto-Romero advice on our campus needs. Join us and make your voice heard!
Galindo Movie Night: Join us this Friday to celebrate the new year with a fun family movie night! We will be watching Disney's Elemental in the cafeteria (it's still too hot outside). Admission is FREE! We will have hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, candy, and drinks for sale. Bring a blanket and pillow!
Laptops and iPads: Students were issued laptops and iPads. This year, AISD has said that they will remain at school to be used as learning tools. Each student has access to their device during the day and the teachers are setting up charging stations in their classrooms.
Student Success Guide: The Austin ISD Student Success Guide (Student Code of Conduct) is now available on the Austin ISD District website for students, parents, and guardians to review. One important legislative update is that ALL e-cigarettes (THC and Tobacco) are prohibited. House Bill 114 requires a student to be placed in the District Alternative Education Program (DAEP) if the student possesses, uses, is under the influence, sells, gives, or delivers marijuana, THC, or an e-cigarette (new) while on campus, within 300 feet of school property, or at a school-related event. Under Austin ISD guidelines, this is a 20-day DAEP placement. Parents and guardians are strongly urged to talk to their students about this new policy and review the Student Success Guide to help keep our schools safe for students and staff. For resources to use when talking with your student about the harmful effects of e-cigarettes visit https://e-cigarettes.surgeongeneral.gov/.
