A Cimarron Middle School community communication
Parent Teacher Conferences are just under two weeks away! We are excited to see you all on September 19th and 21st here at Cimarron. This round of conferences will include both an open house portion and schedule conferences. Open house will take place from 5:15-7:00 PM on both nights.
PTO is also looking for families to sign up to help provide staff with dinner on both of those nights. Please click here to show you support today!
As you may be aware, our school and our district uses iReady as our interim assessment tool to track students’ growth and progress. This is a message to let you know that if you are interested in purchasing the iReady instructional feature for your student for this school year, you may do so in MySchoolBucks. The cost is $20.25 for math and $20.25 for reading for a total of $40.50 for those who wish to purchase both subjects. However, parents may elect to purchase only one subject if they choose.
The i-Ready instructional feature can be a great supplement to their in person instruction and help students growth and achievement in math and/or reading. We recommend no more than 45 minutes a week for this intervention/support. This is a web based feature so it can easily be done from home as long as there is internet access.
Please make this decision no later than Friday September 22nd so we can get this feature set up for those who wish to have it. If you have any questions about this option, feel free to contact Priyanka Graten, at the email address below:
Sincerely,
CIMS Leadership
Importance of Student Attendance
- Talk about the importance of showing up to school every day.
- Try to coordinate family vacations with school breaks.
- Help your teen maintain daily routines, such as finishing homework and getting a good night’s sleep.
- Try not to schedule dental and non-urgent medical appointments during the school day.
- If your teens must stay home because they are sick, make sure they are accessing google classroom for resources and materials to make up for the missed learning time in the classroom.
- Monitor you teen’s academic progress and seek help from teachers when necessary.
- Stay on top of your child’s social contacts. Peer pressure can lead to skipping school, while students without many friends who are struggling with those relationships may feel isolated.
- Encourage your teen to join meaningful after-school activities, including sports and clubs.
- Seek help from school leadership and staff if you need support.
Athletics
If your student wants to participate in school sports, more information can be found on our Athletics Website with details for season dates, FAQs, copy of the sports physical form, and more. We must have proof of a current physical before they can participate. Registration is now open for our next season which starts on September 11th for 6th/7th/8th grade co-ed flag football and 7th grade girls volleyball. If you have any questions about athletics please contact Mr. Barnes at tbarnes@dcsdk12.org. GO COLTS!
A parent meeting for 7th Grade Girls Volleyball and Co-Ed Flag Football will be held on Wednesday, September 13th after practice from 5:00-5:30 in the commons.
Please help support these local businesses who have decided to become sponsors for Cimarron’s Athletic Department. Click on each image to visit their website today. Thank you so much!
7th and 8th Wellness Classes
It’s Physical Fitness Testing Time in Wellness
Physical education is a crucial part of a well-rounded education that aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. One of the key components of physical education programs in schools is Fitnessgram testing.
What is Fitnessgram Testing? Fitnessgram testing is a comprehensive fitness assessment program designed to evaluate and monitor the physical fitness levels of students in physical education classes. Developed by The Cooper Institute, this program assesses various components of physical fitness, including aerobic capacity, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.
The Purpose of Testing:
Assessment of Health Status: Fitnessgram testing provides an objective measure of a student's overall physical health and fitness. It helps identify areas of strength and areas that may need improvement, offering a clear picture of their current health status.
Motivation and Goal Setting: By receiving feedback on their fitness levels, students are motivated to set personal fitness goals. These goals can be specific and realistic, encouraging students to strive for better health and fitness.
Physical Education Program Improvement: Fitnessgram data can be aggregated at the school or district level, enabling educators to evaluate the effectiveness of their physical education programs. This data-driven approach can lead to program enhancements to better meet students' needs.
Long-Term Health Benefits: The ultimate goal of Fitnessgram testing is not just to pass a test but to encourage lifelong physical activity. It equips students with the knowledge and skills to maintain a healthy lifestyle beyond their school years.
Inclusivity and Personalization: Fitnessgram testing takes into account individual differences. It acknowledges that not all students will have the same fitness levels but encourages each student to work towards their own personal best.
