Garfield Re-2-Saves Money While Reducing Waste and Increasing Sustainability
Garfield Re-2 has school lunch back in full swing! Trt67he Nutrition Services Department has been able to save money while reducing waste. After careful consideration, we have selected a green plastic food eco-container, which can be washed and reused after use. This is a clamshell-shaped container that can be run through a dishwasher. After checking with the health department, we learned these containers are appropriate for our use. In addition to preventing tons of Styrofoam from entering the landfill, we are also creating a $100,000 in savings to our department. This is a win-win for the environment, students’ safety and our food services budget. Other efforts being discussed include some schools wanting to do composting feeding gardens with the compost product.
