Congratulations to Yu Shang Zou: Winner of the Cape & Islands, Massachusetts, and East Coast Regional Region Daughters Of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest.
This is the first time in Monomoy history that one of our students has advanced this far in the selection process. In the fifteen years prior, when I served at Harwich High, we also did not have a student who made it this far through the competition.
This award is given to those who exemplify the qualities of a good citizen, who demonstrate the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. I am so proud of Yu Shang’s achievement!
We will keep our collective fingers crossed as Yu Shang is now a National Finalist for the prestigious DAR award!
Good Luck, Yu Shang

Walden Pond Field Trip 3/25/22
Mr. Smeltzer’s Latin III and IV classes made a memorable trek out to Walden Pond and North Bridge in Concord, Ma, on Friday, March 25, 2022. The students were analyzing and drawing attention to Thoreau’s ideas as they relate to the philosophy of Roman Stoicism. The purpose of the trip was to further explore the ways in which Henry David Thoreau related the idea of carpe diem into his own life at the pond. Many students commented on the natural beauty of the pond and Thoreau’s advice to live life deliberately.
Watch a video recap of the trip here, created by Jeffrey Hauck: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1q6bW7U1zTlIxHqmedXIp7RKbhH7iSmID/view?usp=sharing
