Lambs Ledger
December 2022
Message from the Principal, Jamie McCarthy
As we close out 2022, we will begin to assess our students to get mid year academic achievement data. This will provide us the opportunity to see what skills have been mastered and which areas we need to focus on. Our teachers have been working diligently everyday to ensure that our students are interacting with outstanding instruction. Please help us by having your child to school on time and prepared for learning. Each day your student is not present, it creates an additional challenge. You cannot replace in person instruction.
I hope that all of you are able to enjoy this holiday season with your family and loved ones. I look forward to welcoming everyone back January 4th with a refreshed focus and energy as we gear up for the most impactful part of the school year!

December Special Area at Lambs
In our 1st and 2nd grade classes, we will be having some fun with snow and learning how and why it happens. I will also be choosing books from the library collection for students to look through and check out that support their EL curriculum; first grade is studying the sun, moon, and stars, and second grade is studying how fossils tell of Earth's changes!
The fourth and fifth grade classes will be focusing on writing in the library. Fifth grade will be writing to pen pals at Zucker Middle School to practice their writing skills and 4th graders will have engaging writing prompts and opportunities to share.
Third through fifth graders are continuously working on meeting their quarterly Accelerated Reader Goals and get so excited when they are closer to their goal! Our AR Celebration will take place on Friday, January 20th, since the second quarter ends on January 17th.
We are also excited to welcome author and illustrator, Jim Monroe, to Lambs Elementary on Friday, December 2nd! If you would like to purchase his book, "The Sneezing Toucan," please see your child's Thursday folder for the order form.
Music with Ms. Martin-Kindergarten and CD will continue to play percussion instruments and learn special rhythm patterns to play with our winter songs.
First and Second grades are rehearsing their songs and poems for our Winter
Program. The program is Thursday, December 8th at 5:00pm in the cafeteria. We
are so excited!
Third graders continue to learn all about the recorders. We are focusing on
notation as we prepare for our March field trip.
Fourth and Fifth grades are building our tempo and rhythm skills with instruments,
games, and songs.
It’s a busy December!
PE with Coach Wilson-Physical Education classes will continue to practice the Fitnessgram and we are also learning how to serve the tennis balls over the net in our tennis unit. We will be learning soccer and golf in the new year. I am also looking forward to teaching basketball early in the next year.
Art with Ms. Weber- December in art goes by quickly and is packed with fun. We will be hand building with clay!! Lambs artists will make pinch pots, coil pots, figurines and bowls to take home before winter break!
