SISD Welcomes New Hires
SISD Welcomes New Assistant Principals
Jennifer Watkins, SHS Assistant Principal
SISD’s Board of Trustees recently hired Jennifer Watkins as an Assistant Principal at SHS.
“I have worked with Jenny on a prior campus, and not only does she possess foundational knowledge of school processes, procedures and programs, she is also an incredible human being,” SHS Principal Ashlee Graham said. “I can’t wait for her to be able to showcase that in her new role as an assistant principal.”
Mrs. Watkins, who is a 22-year educator, joins Dustin Gunter as half of the two-person Assistant Principal team who will support Principal Ashlee Graham at SHS.
She joins SISD after two years at Reedy High School in Frisco ISD. Prior to that, she spent several years in Allen ISD.
“In my previous roles, I was a teacher, a Campus Intervention Specialist, and a Campus Instructional Support Facilitator. I have heard so many wonderful things about the Sunnyvale community, and I was drawn to the hometown culture where everyone is a Raider!”
Mrs. Watkins says that her initial goal this school year is to, “build connections with the students, staff, and community.”
Mrs. Watkins and her husband, Brian live in McKinney and have 5 children: Hailey (22), Landon (16), Jordyn (15), Lukas (14), and Preston (5). They spend the majority of their evenings and weekends at practices and games for football, basketball, and baseball.
Sherrie Koerner, SES Assistant Principal
Beloved elementary teacher and Dyslexia/ESL Coordinator Sherrie Koerner has stepped into the role of Assistant Principal at the elementary school.
“I am beyond excited to have Ms. Koerner step into the role of assistant principal at SES,” SES Principal Brittany Dlabaj. “She brings a wealth of early literacy knowledge and a passion for learning that I know she will help pass on to our students. Kids come first in every decision she makes, which is why I knew she was the one to take on this role.”
Mrs. Koerner is a 24 year educator, having spent the last nine years in SISD.
“What initially drew me to Sunnyvale was the small town feel and drive for excellence,” she said. “I grew up in a small East Texas town where everyone knew your name and the community was what got you through the ups and downs of life. There is that same connectedness and community here at Sunnyvale as well, and I love that I get to be a part of supporting our little Raiders and families now as an educator.”
Mrs. Koerner, who is an embedded part of the SES community is looking forward to starting her role as one of the campus leaders.
“My goal this year is to inspire the love of learning and reading in our little Raiders,” Mrs. Koerner said.
Mrs. Koerner lives in Rockwall and feels blessed to get to work with her sister who also works in the district. She enjoys seeing her nephew, who is a Raider at the elementary school, at school each day.
