Calling all artists!
Ms. Shannon is looking for a few or more students to paint on the school’s native seed library! An MEA parent, Graie Donnenworth, expertly crafted the library in the Spring, and we are looking forward to stocking it with seeds, pamphlets and brochures with the generosity of the San Diego Audubon Society Native Seed Library Team.
The school should have enough paint to make this happen. Please see the image of the library and some inspiration for plants and flowers to adorn it. Email or find Ms. Shannon on campus if you are interested—you will receive several hours of service learning credit for this!

Malala Fund
In our 8th-grade humanities classes, we're engrossed in 'I Am Malala' and gaining profound insights into diverse cultures and customs. It's become evident that countless girls around the world are denied access to a robust education. To address this, we're launching a fundraiser for the Malala Fund, with the aim of generating resources to offer a transformative educational experience to those less privileged than ourselves. We have another donor who has committed to matching the first $100 given. The donation drive will be running until October 15th.

Rocketry Club
Hello MEA students. I have an opportunity that may be useful for you all.
There is a rocket building competition for High School and Middle School students called American Rocketry Challenge. This competition will consist of up to 1000 teams and over 100,000 dollars in prizes for the students and the school of the winning teams. Each team will consist of 3-10 people. The top 100 teams will fly out for the finals which is in Washington DC. This competition has partners such as NASA and the Department of Defense. The premise of the competition is to build a rocket that reaches 825 feet while also protecting an egg held inside. We will be building many rockets in preparation for the qualification and final launches.
I will be leading this team in order to compete in this competition. It will run as a club called the Rocketry Club. This is for students in grades 6-12 only. We will meet on Thursdays from 12:00pm-1:30pm weeks 1-3 in Mr. Spiegelberg’s room (RM 8) or in the Maker’s Space depending on the week. This is only for students who are dedicated and believe that they will be a good fit on the team. Due to the limited space on the team, we may not be able to have all of you on the team. However, please feel free to submit the interest form.
This is the link to the American Rocketry Challenge website for more information https://rocketcontest.org/about/.
