PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hello Alder Families!
We welcome February with great excitement at Alder. Our students are continuing their learning and delving into interesting topics across the curriculum.
In our classrooms this week our students delved into the fascinating world of biology to learn about worm dissection. During this hands-on activity students enhanced their understanding of anatomy, scientific inquiry and observation. In mathematics, students will tackle the distributive property, a fundamental concept that lays the groundwork for more complex algebraic equations. Through interactive exercises and problem-solving tasks, they will sharpen their mathematical reasoning and critical thinking abilities. Additionally, language arts classes focused on persuasive writing skills as they embarked on the journey of crafting an argumentative essay. This process encourages them to articulate their opinions coherently, support their claims with evidence, and engage in respectful discourse—a crucial skill set for academic success and civic engagement.
This week our students were joined by students from the High School’s Wingman program during convocation. The Wingmen talked to the student about the importance of team building. The team building activities promote the cultivation of essential life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and leadership. By providing opportunities for students to collaborate, communicate, and problem-solve together, we can empower them to become confident, empathetic, and resilient individuals prepared to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Alder Sports
Boys Basketball: Resiliency has been the theme of the season for the Alder Boys Basketball team. After an upsetting loss on Monday, the boys came back the very next day against the very same team, and the Eagles defeated the Ospreys by an impressive score of 59 to 28! Equally as impressive, 9 different players contributed to the scoring, including Brian Little who led all scorers with 23 points! Great team win for the Eagles!
Girls Basketball: Alder girls basketball beat Ocean City in a very close game in overtime 28 to 27. The entire game was back and forth but Maddie Stickel’s defense was key to send the game into overtime while Payton Crowell scored the winning point on the foul line. Marissa Baxter also contributed to the win by scoring 9 points, Laila Muniir scored 8 points, Payton Crowell scored 6 points, Gianna Galego scored 3 points and Maddie Stickel scored 2 points! The team’s record is now 12-3.
