The Patton Post

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, December 1st
Wow! We certainly had a chilly re-entry for our first week back at school, but it was so fun to see the kids enjoying the snow at recess! I hope everyone had a wonderful break and everyone is well rested and recharged and ready to hit the ground running for the next 3 weeks until winter break!
It will be here before we know it and I know this time of year can be busy for everyone so I will keep these weekly updates short and concise from here on in!
I am excited to see those of you that have RSVPd for it at the "Patton Spreads Joy" event this evening! It is sure to be a fun and festive evening.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

COLD WEATHER RECESS (NEW POST!)
Please be mindful that students will go out for recess every day as long as the wind chill is above zero and it is not raining. Please ensure your Panthers come to school dressed for the weather. If there is snow on the ground, students will not be able to play on the field or the playground unless they are wearing snow pants and boots. They will need to remain on the blacktop only if they do not have appropriate snow gear. Gloves and hats are important when the weather is cold even if students choose not to bring boots and snow pants.
Students are encouraged to bring in a bag of snow gear each day "just in case" - this also helps minimize any classroom disruptions with items being dropped into the office after school is in session. Please ensure all items are labeled clearly so we can reunite any lost gloves/hats/boots with their owners quickly and easily.
Please also have students bring their snow gear bags home with them over the weekend so clothes can be washed and dried and "refreshed" for the following week! Damp clothes can get a bit smelly when left in the classroom!
Thank you so much for working with us on this front, it is hugely appreciated!
LOST AND FOUND (NEW POST!)
No, Nordstrom Rack has NOT opened up a new location in our entryway! Believe it or not, even though it has only been a few weeks since we donated our entire lost and found, we are already overflowing with hoodies and hats and coats galore!
As the weather gets a bit chillier, I'm sure some of these items will come in VERY handy so please do remind your child/ren to come and take a look.
Parents/guardians/care givers are also welcome to come in and take a look as we know that students aren't always the best at remembering to come and have a look or recognizing their lost items.
All items will be donated before winter break. Whether you come to Patton for Patton Spreads Joy (Dec. 1), our 2nd Grade Musical (Dec. 7th) or our 5th Grade Musical Kick-Off Meeting (Dec. 14th), please do take a look at all our items and claim anything that is yours. Feel free to stop by at other times or if you recognize something in the picture, let your child's teacher know your child has something to claim in the lost and found. We will help them collect their missing items.
Beginning December 18th, we will pack up remaining items to donate before winter break.
2nd GRADE MUSICAL PERFORMANCE - THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7TH (NEW POST!)
I don't want to bug you too much about this but I just wanted to let you know that our 2nd graders are buzzing with excitement about their upcoming musical performance, "Squirm"! I know they can't wait to creepy-crawl onto the stage and show off their un-bee-lievable talents to their families and friends.
I have no doubt that our wonderful 2nd grade shell-elebrities are going to snail it and it will be a total slug-cess!
Doors will open at 6:45pm and the curtain will rise promptly at 7pm.
HOMEWORK CLUB - DECEMBER (NEW POST!)
Homework club is returning for December!! This is a wonderful space and opportunity for students to catch up on some homework, enjoy quiet reading time and ask for help if they need it!
This will run Thursday 7th, 14th and 21st December.
If your child is interested, please SIGN UP HERE and be sure to enter your child's name when signing up! There are only a few spots remaining each week!
SPARE CLOTHES FOR THE NURSE (NEW POST!)
If any of your kiddos have experienced a growth spurt recently and you find yourself with any extra pants, socks, shirts, or hoodies, please consider donating them to our school nurse! Mrs Staniak is always grateful for any extra items that she can loan out to students should they need them, especially as the ground outside gets a bit wet and mushy. If you know your child has a tendency to get wet socks when they play outside, please include a clean, dry pair of socks in their backpack or their snow gear bag. Let them know it is there if they need to change into fresh socks after recess.
FOOD & NUTRITION SERVICES - SEASONAL MENUS (2nd POST!)
The Food & Nutrition Services Department is continually working to provide our students with lunch menu items that they enjoy, while providing a variety of nutritious options for our students. To achieve this, the department will be having seasonal menus this school year. All elementary and middle schools will have a Fall (8/17-11/17), Winter (11/27-2/14), Spring (2/20-5/31) Menu. Many of our favorite menu items will stay on the menu, however, this allows us to add some new products to our menus!
Our elementary and middle school students taste-tested a variety of new menu items this fall, and we have selected several of those items to be placed on the winter menu. We had quite a few items our students enjoyed, so some of the student-approved items will also be placed on the spring menu.
Updated menus will be posted on our website as well as on our app. Nutritional information can also be found on our website. We look forward to continuing to serve our students delicious and healthy lunch options.
PARENT ACADEMY (Ongoing Post)
The District recently launched its new Parent Academy newsletter and page on the website.
The goal of Parent Academy is to provide learning opportunities for parents to better understand ways to support their students’ academic success and personal well-being. We welcome parents and families to engage in various activities and events to explore topics related to mental health, well-being, equity and inclusion, and academics. Please visit the website (www.sd25.org/ParentAcademy) for archived newsletters, further resources and information, or to submit an idea/topic for the next Parent Academy newsletter.
