Dolvin Diary
February 1, 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Dolvin Families –
Just a few items for you today…
Parent Coffee Resources
At Dolvin, we host monthly Parent Coffees on timely and relevant topics. If you are not able to attend, you can always access the recordings HERE.
Our topics this year have included:
Valentine’s Day
As we approach Valentine’s Day, it is important to ensure that all homemade candy, desserts, baked goods, or other edible items are not to be sold or distributed during school hours, and that appropriate store-bought items are delivered to the administration. Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students with allergies, etc. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!
Your proud principal,
Karen

Existing Dolvin students do not need to register as they will automatically be placed into the next school year. However, if you are not returning to Dolvin for the fall, please let us know! There is an easy withdrawal process.
Please share this information with your neighbors that may have rising kindergartens!
Clinic News
Our school is committed to creating and maintaining a healthy and safe environment for all students and staff. To keep our daily commitment, we ask that you please abide by the following guidelines put in place by District Health Services. No student that vomits, has diarrhea, or has a fever greater than 100.4 will be permitted to attend school that day. He or she will not be permitted to return to school unless the vomiting/diarrhea has stopped for a minimum of 24 hours and/or be fever free for a minimum of 24 hours without the use of any fever-reducing medications, such as Tylenol. For example, if a student is sent home from school for vomiting at 11:30 a.m. and it was an isolated incident, that student would need to stay home the following day until 11:30 a.m. If sent to school that morning, he or she will not be allowed to remain at school and will be sent home. If a student spikes a fever overnight and it breaks at 6:30 a.m. The student still needs to remain home that day even if symptoms have improved. He or she may return the following day as long as there is no more fever without the use of medications. For more information regarding school policy please contact the clinic at 470-254-9281 or visit the parent resources tab at the DHS website https://www.fultonschools.org/districthealthservices. Thank you.
Media Center News
On February 9th, Fulton County METIs will have authors streaming through Teams all day. The FCS METI team has secured a stellar lineup of children’s and middle grade’s authors. Throughout the day, they will be reading excerpts from their books and then answering Q&A. This is an excellent opportunity to spend a few minutes of your classroom day listening to authors and inspiring young writers!
Volunteers
As of January 3, 2024, Fulton County Schools is utilizing the CheckMate Sign-In system to welcome visitors and volunteers into our schools. CheckMate has replaced the Raptor system. Unfortunately, the Volunteer Registration system did not roll over into the new system and all School Volunteers will need to re-register. Any task that will allow you to interact with students will require you to register as a Volunteer. The new re-registration will be effective until May 31, 2026. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience. Please follow the link below to access the FCS Volunteer Registration page.

Important - All Visitors and Volunteers must remember to bring in their driver's license each time they sign in. The license will be scanned each time. Thank you for your patience as we are implementing this new safety procedure.

Foundation News
Hello DolvINcredible families!
The Foundation held two of its Direct Giving incentive events during the final weeks of first semester. First was our Lunch with a Teacher of Choice for our Dynamite Dolphins; kids and teachers alike loved the chance for some in depth, one-on-one conversations and a special meal together. Then we held the amazing Maker Space Day (hosted after school by our wonderful FCS Vanguard teachers) for 43 Dynamic, Daring, and Dynamite Dolphins! Kids had a blast coding, crafting, building, creating, and gaming with all the wonderful resources in our media center.
The Foundation will be wrapping up its final incentive events (Discovery Lab Family Night and Dolvin News Splash appearances) over the coming month. Students who qualified for the News Splash appearances will be grouped by grade level to participate in the hello, goodbye, and dance party segments of the news - so fun! Families who qualified for the Discovery Lab Family Night were sent an email invitation this Tuesday; please check your inbox and be sure to RSVP. And, if you’re one of our Dynamite Dolphin families that earned Reserved Parking this year, please note this will be another event where you get your parking perk!
The Foundation Board has also been busy working on implementing the target projects from the Direct Giving campaign. We are in process of getting vendor quotes for the sound dampeners for the cafeteria, and also investigating options for author visits. Stay tuned for more updates!
Meanwhile, the Foundation has already put your donor dollars to good use this school year by purchasing or renewing Flocabulary, BreakoutEDU, sound meters for Discovery Lab activities, and dedicated playground supplies (chalk, balls, jump ropes, etc.) for each class!
Once again, THANK YOU to all our wonderful donors and sponsors this year! Be sure to visit our Sponsor Page for links to all their websites, and check out our Gold and Silver sponsors at the spring Fun Run!
