GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR NEW SCHOOL

Please join us for a Groundbreaking Ceremony in celebration of the start of construction for our second new elementary school.

Event: Elementary School #2 Groundbreaking Ceremony
Date: Tuesday, October 26, 2021
Time: 4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Location: Former Valerius Elementary site (3305 92nd Street, Urbandale, IA 50322) South Entrance
Directions/Parking: From Douglas Avenue, South on Patricia Drive, East on Dewey Gibbs Road, South on 92nd Street, East on Boston Avenue. Park on side streets. We’ll meet at the South entrance.

If poor weather conditions arise the day of the ceremony, the event will be cancelled but construction will continue moving forward as scheduled. Please check the District Twitter for weather-related updates the day of the event.

COLD WEATHER IS HERE...

Please remember to send your student with layers. We welcome hats, gloves, and coats. If the weather warms up, they can always stay on the hook. When students don't have enough layers it can be miserable outside.

It also helps if you label the items with student last name. That way if they end up lost, we can return them to their owner. Speaking of which, our Lost and Found, is very full. We will be hanging these items and encouraging students to take a look on their way to and from lunch.

FACE MASK REMINDERS

Face masks continue to be required for our K-5 students, unless a student has a health or religious waiver. Please remember the following:

1- Send more than one mask to school. It always helps to have a back up.

2- Talk about proper mask wearing at home. The mask needs to cover the mouth and nose.

3- Wash your masks regularly.

Thanks for your support keeping our staff and students safe and healthy!

J-Leaders

Our J-Leaders just completed a two week "Kindness Kollection". Thank you for all of your donations to help our school. We collected:

26 reusable water bottles

144 filled water bottles

459 snacks

20 sets of earbuds/ headphones

296 masks

We have such a generous school! Many thanks to Mrs. MacGregor and Mrs. Squires and the J-Leader crew for their leadership at our school!

URBANDALE IS HIRING!

Make a positive difference for UCSD students while enjoying hours within a school-day schedule & being a member of IPERS. UCSD is hiring for various positions including Adventuretime Before & After School Childcare Associates, High School Spanish Teacher, High School Special Education Teacher, Nutrition Services, Special Education Associates, and Substitutes. At Valerius we have filled two of our full time positions. Now we have two positions still available:

5.75 hr/day special education associate

4.5 hr/day general education associate

Every two years we hold School Board Elections and this year UCSD has three (3) open seats on the ballot. All three seats are four-year terms. In this article, you’ll find information about the candidate forum hosted by the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce and information about voting in the election. Plus, we requested our eight (8) school board candidates respond to the following three questions:

Uplifting Urbandale

Mary Clark: We are honored to recognize Mary Clark, a dedicated level three teacher at Urbandale High School. Mary was one of our remote special education teachers during the 2020-21 school year. While working in a new, remote setting, Mary took on the many challenges that came up over the past year with a creative problem solving style that engaged all learners and staff.
