At 1:45 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023 Harriet Bishop Elementary students and staff will be participating in our 28th annual all school parade. The Burnsville High School Marching Band will lead the students and staff through the neighborhood. The band and drumline will perform for us in the upper parking lot at the end of the parade. Therefore, there will be no parking in the upper lot from 12:30 - 3:00 p.m. It would also be helpful if cars do not park on the streets on the parade route - O'Connell to Woodbridge Lane, to South Park, to O'Connell. We hope you join us and watch for your child as we parade through the streets of Savage.

Please join us on September 21st 9:15 - 10:15 a.m. in the school Cafeteria.

This will be a time to get to know Principal Essay and our new SSLS Niaka Dunbar. It will also be a time to learn more about Harriet Bishop and connect with other families here at Harriet Bishop.

We welcome all parents and guardians to this event.

Did you know there was an app that can track your students bus? The service provides parents and students with a better idea of where a bus is along its route and about what time it will arrive at their stop. Parents and students can log in to the website by downloading the MyStop app (android or iOS) to a smartphone or tablet. They can view a map of their specific bus route, an approximate location of the bus, and an estimated arrival time at their bus stop. Support your school by completing an Alternate Application for Educational Benefits

Starting this fall, every K-12 student may receive one breakfast and one lunch at no cost during the school year. Minnesota’s Free School Meals program and federal funding will cover the cost of breakfast and lunch for in-person students in kindergarten through grade 12, as well as for pre-kindergarten students who attend elementary schools.

Even though meals are free for most students, District 191 asks all families to complete the Alternate Application for Educational Benefits. By filling out the Alternate Application for Educational Benefits, families may qualify for additional benefits such as reduced or waived athletic and activities fees, reduced transportation fees, discounts on internet service, emergency food benefits, and more.

Filling out the Alternate Application for Educational Benefits also helps support District 191 schools, as some of the funding schools receive is determined by the number of families that qualify for benefits. So by completing the form, families are helping ensure District 191 schools receive everything we need to support students, including additional funding for teachers, interventionists and other student supports. That’s why our goal is to have 100 percent of families complete this application. Any information submitted will remain confidential.

YEARBOOK PHOTO SUBMISSION – WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We mostly rely on parents and teachers for the yearbook pictures. We want all pictures! Please send us pictures of the first day of school, the school parade, classroom / community / school events, friends’ pictures and everything in between. All Students walking or parent drop off or pickup will use the Upper Level Doors.

All students arriving by bus will be dropped off and picked up at the Lower Level Doors

You should have received a postcard from the District 191 Transportation Department if you will be riding the bus. Parents/Guardians may call transportation at 952-707-2069 or email at 191transportation@isd191.org if they have any questions or concerns.

An adult crossing guard will be on duty at O'Connell Road and 144th street to assist walkers from 8:55-9:10 a.m. and 3:55-4:10 p.m. daily. Patrols will be on duty at O'Connell and Woodbridge Drive and at South Park.

Medication Policy Reminder

ALL medications (prescription and nonprescription) to be administered at school must have written parent/guardian permission, a written order signed by a licensed prescriber and the medication in an original container or prescription bottle that is properly labeled.
