The Owl Post
February 17, 2024
Dear Vernon Community,
Please join us this Thursday for our Black History Month Celebration in the MPR from 5:00-7:30 PM. We'll be honoring the rich heritage and contributions of Black individuals with food and performances by both students and community members. Your presence will help us celebrate Black History Month as a unified community.
A special thank you goes to Tina Bruce for her unwavering support and leadership of our Family of Black Students affinity group. Her advocacy and support has been invaluable. I'd also like to express gratitude to Bobby Bridges for his enthusiasm and assistance guiding this group as well. His efforts in organizing a week of activities in the MPR during recess allowed students to have fun while learning about the ingenuity and innovation of Black inventors.
Furthermore, I want to acknowledge Eric Island for his daily messages, which have been instrumental in showcasing examples of Black excellence to Vernon students. Thanks to the families who have supported our month-long Black History Month themes. Additionally, a big shoutout to the Vernon teachers who continuously integrate Black History into the curriculum and student experiences, not just in February, but throughout the year.
I eagerly anticipate a delightful evening of celebration this Thursday and hope to see you there.
Warm regards,
Ben Keefer
Principal

District News - Vaccine Clinics
To avoid long lines, we are trying to help families get immunizations now rather than wait until closer to Feb 21 (School Exclusion Day).
- If your child is missing vaccines, it's time to catch up!
Vaccines keep your child healthy and protected from serious diseases. They are required by law for all children in schools, preschools and child care facilities. Parents will be sent a letter if their child’s vaccination records are incomplete. To avoid missing school or child care, get your child up to date on their vaccinations as soon as possible. Make a vaccine appointment now, as there may be a long wait.
