Weekly Warrior for Families

Parent-Teacher Conference Day is scheduled for Friday, February 9. Students will not attend school on this day.

Conferences are held Thursday, February 8 from 3-6pm (20 minute intervals...last conference at 5:40) and Friday, February 9 from 8am-12pm (last conference at 11:40pm).

If teachers are specifically requesting a meeting for your child, the teacher and/or Counseling will attempt to reach you to get this scheduled. Please return the call/email promptly so we can get these scheduled. Your child's SUCCESS is our priority and we look forward to partnering with you.

If you do not hear from a teacher but would still like to schedule a conference, please do so by calling the counseling office at 378-2435.

Monday, February 12th is an In-Service Day, students will not attend on this day as well. Students, enjoy your 4 day weekend!

We will be holding a Title One meeting to focus on our Home/School Compact on Friday, October 9, 10:30-11:30am. Sign-in will be located in the lobby and guests will be directed to the meeting at that time.

4. Home/School Compact - will take suggestions and make revisions as needed

A big congratulations to our Lady Warriors basketball team for an incredible season that ended with being runner-up in the Conference Championship. They went on to play in the Sectional Tournament (Round 1). We are so proud of all of these players and coaches for their hard work and dedication!

The Warriors are Conference Champs! They continued their season and have won 2 games this week in Knoxville and will be playing this Saturday in Knoxville in the Sectional Finals. Way to go, best of luck, safe travels...#WarriorProud

Candidates trying out for the Sevier Dance Team MUST turn in their application to Mrs. McMurray by February 8th. Candidates MUST have a CURRENT medical packet completed by a doctor on file in order to participate in the clinic. If the forms are not turned in, candidates will not be allowed to try out. Tryouts will be held February 13-16th from 5:30-7:30 PM in the Sevier Gym.

Any student interested in running Track and Field this year will need to pick up information from either Coach Price, Coach Olson, or Coach Potts. Forms must be turned in no later than Friday, February 23rd.

Golf tryouts will be on Tuesday February 6th and Wednesday February 7th from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Cattails golf course (Meadowview). You must have a current sports physical on file with the school and your own clubs to tryout. See Mr. Fissel for more information.

Middle school weight lifting will resume on January 30th. It will still be Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:10-4:10 at D-B. Students must have a physical on file to participate. More details are outlined in this newsletter. If anyone has questions they can reach out to Coach Luethke. Thank you!

Student Leadership Ambassadors will meet on Tuesday until 3:45 in Mrs. Bingham's Room.

There will be a Sequoyah Scribe staff meeting from 2:50 to 3:20 pm in room 329. All staff members are required to attend. The editorial team will meet until 4:30 pm.

Prayer Warriors will meet Wednesday, January 17th at 7:15AM in the library (and every other Wednesday). Participants must have a completed permission form prior to attending. They can pick a permission form up from the office.

On the alternate Wednesday's, Wyldlife will be held in the library starting at 7:15AM. Please join us for that as well.

David Flanary here, adviser of Sevier Middle School’s journalism program. I wanted to reach out to you with some information about the 2023-2024 yearbook.

This time, we are partnering with Jostens to produce a 100-page, full-color, hardback yearbook to celebrate the memories students will make. Yearbooks will cost $30.00; customizing the yearbook with a student's name will cost an additional $8.00.

Every year, we have a large number of students who miss the opportunity to purchase a yearbook because they simply forget to place a pre-order. Ordering early is the best way to secure a copy of the yearbook.

Middle School Weight Lifting will be offered from 3:15-4:15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the DB Weight Room. Students can ride the bus from Sevier to D-B if needed. Training will occur in the second floor weight room of the Alumni Field House. Parents will need to arrive for pick up from DB by 4:10pm (field house area or Veteran Memorial Park). Open to any KCS middle school student with a physical and KCS medical packet on file. Students do not need to be involved in a sport to attend, but students planning to tryout for sports at DB are strongly encouraged to attend. Anyone that plans on playing football next year for John Sevier or Dobyns Bennett (DB) would be greatly benefitted by participating in the weight lifting program for middle school athletes that is held at DB. Weight lifting details are outlined above. If you are planning to play football and are not involved in a winter sport/practice, it is strongly encouraged to attend.

We have lots of items (sweatshirts, hoodies, water bottles, lunch bags) in the lost & found that is located outside of the cafeteria entrance (in the atrium). See photos below. Be sure to go by there and look for items that may be yours. Items remaining will be donated.

Parents, please encourage your child to go by this area and claim items that belong to them. Also, have your child write his/her name on water bottles, lunch bags, jackets, etc.

Fridays couldn't be sweeter thanks to the FRI-YAY snack cart. PTO will be set up during activity period (when students walk the track) selling a snack on Fridays during the school year. Your student can buy a pre-packaged treat for $2.00. The plan is for our snacks to change monthly depending on the feedback we get from the students. The snack cart is cash only!

We are blessed to have several water bottle filling stations located throughout the school. It is encouraged for students to bring a water bottle with them to stay hydrated. Also, this helps students from missing class time if they have water with them rather than making trips to the water fountain.

D-B EXCEL is a STEM designated program that offers a smaller learning environment for students in grades 9-12 and focuses on blended and project-based learning. DBE is part of Dobyns-Bennett, but our campus is located in the Kingsport Press Building in downtown Kingsport. You can CLICK HERE to view a video about DBE.

It's vitally important that we have current contact phone numbers and a correct address for each student. If your email changes be sure to let us know that as well.

• Please try to have after school arrangements communicated with your child prior to them arriving to school.

• Students attending sporting events need to remain with their guardian. Students that are dropped off without an adult with them will not be allowed to enter the sporting event.

Students’ cell phones and other electronic devices are to be turned off and not visible upon a student’s arrival to school (upon entering the building) until the end of the student’s school day. Students must store their cell phones and other electronic devices in their backpacks (exceptions may be granted for medical or other extraordinary circumstances as determined by the building principal or designee). Cell phones may be confiscated if this rule is violated. When confiscated from students, parents will be asked to retrieve the cell phone from the school administration.

• 1st offense - The item will be confiscated and kept at the school for a minimum of five (5) consecutive school days. To retrieve the confiscated item, a parent or guardian must contact the appropriate administrator.

• 2nd offense - When a student has a second offense during the current semester, the item will be confiscated for a minimum of ten (10) school days. A parent or guardian must retrieve the confiscated item from the front office.

• 3rd offense - When a student has a third offense during the current semester, the item may be confiscated for the remainder of the school year. A parent or guardian may retrieve the confiscated item at the end of the school day on the last day of the school year.
