I hope that you had a wonderful weekend! We will have a ROOTS PTA meeting next week in the on Tuesday, 9/20 in the evening on zoom. We hope that you will be able to join us! A zoom link will be sent out to you in next week's Acorn.

Upcoming Events

• Monday, 9/12- Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Dr. Mike Vierra visits AOC students and teachers.
• Tuesday, 9/13 and Wednesday, 9/14- Students in Freshman Seminar and Advisement will watch a "Lock Down Drill" video and discuss what they will do in this type of emergency situation.
• Wednesday 9/14- AOC/ COC Pathway to Law School Program presentation for 10th grade only.
  
• Thursday 9/15- Mental Health Chats for students at lunch (various mental health topics).
• Friday, 9/16- University of Southern California Visits with AOC Seniors.

Here is the William S. Hart Union High School District's new Strategic Plan. Please feel free to review it. This is our five year plan for our students and schools.

The document is titled with the words, "We are One Hart. Every Student, Opportunity Ready".

There are five focus areas in the document- 1) Student Learning and Instruction, 2) Safety and Wellness, 3) Access and Equity, 4) Financial and Human Resources, and 5)Communication and Collaboration. We will work together to achieve the goals within this plan.

Academy of the Canyons (AOC) will hold their graduation for our middle college high school students and families on May 17th, 2023 at 6:00pm at the College of the Canyons in the Performing Arts Center.

College of the Canyons Commencement Ceremony for students receiving AA degrees will be held on June 2nd. See the academic calendar for COC for other dates. More information will be provided in the Spring for our 12th grade families.

Go Fusion Grill food truck will be coming to COC next door to AOC's campus on Thursdays! The food trucks offer tacos, burritos, hot dogs, carne asada, fries, and nachos amongst other items. Here is a link to his Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/gofusionngrill/?hl=en

College of the Canyons is looking to offer a food choice closer to the University Center for AOC and COC students. Sales tax is already included in the price. All orders must be complete by Wednesdays at 12:00pm. This is a preorder menu.

Free meals from the cafeteria are still in place this year. Each student can receive one complimentary breakfast and one lunch each day with their student IDs. It is packaged together for students to pick up at 11:00am daily. But, they must be signed up to receive it.

Go Fusion food truck at COC. And, the English Department takes a picture with Mrs. Eller and sends her off with well wishes. Our new long term teacher, Mr. Kyle Shannon has a degree from Masters College in English and a background in theater. He has worked closely with Mrs. Eller and Mrs. Bisacchi to get ready to take over for Mrs. Eller's English classes this Monday. He joined us at Back to School Night. Welcome to the team, Mr. Shannon!

Located on the campus of College of the Canyons, AOC is proud to be the middle college high school in the William S. Hart Union High School District serving students 9th-12th grades in the Santa Clarita Valley. Students have the opportunity to earn between 24 and 44 transferable college units, prior to receiving their high school diplomas. Upon graduation, the majority of Academy students pursue their post high school education by continuing at COC and completing their college transfer requirements in only one year after high school. Other AOC students go directly into a four-year university, bringing their community college units with them and placing themselves well into their freshman and sophomore years at the college level. While attending AOC as a high school student, community college tuition is waived for established California residents.
