Principal's Post
Spring has finally arrived! We are thankful for the warmer, drier weather and are looking forward to using our beautiful playground, basketball court and soccer field on a more regular basis!
Spring means welcoming upcoming kindergarten students and their families, so mark your calendars if you have a rising school-age child or have friends, family or neighbors that have children starting school next year. Any child who reaches the age of 5 years old on or before August 31, 2019 is eligible to register for kindergarten.
We welcome you to the Royal Oaks School of the Arts Kindergarten Registration the week of April 8ththrough April 12th. Parents and children may drop in between 9:00 and 1:00 Monday through Friday for registration, and 5:00-7:00 on Thursday evening. Refreshments and fun activities will be provided for children while parents complete the registration process.
Remember to bring the following documents to registration:
· Photo ID of Parent/Legal Guardian
· Child’s Birth Certificate
· Child’s Immunization Record
· Child’s Health Assessment
· Proof of Domicile-2 Documents, 1 From Each Source
o Source 1: House Deed, current property tax statement, current lease agreement, or closing statement

Teachers and staff are excited to meet our newest Rockets and are looking forward to spending time with you!
Sincerely,
Melody Marsh
EOG Tips
In the weeks prior to testing, parents can do the following:
· Allow your child to practice “endurance” reading. The reading portion of the EOG requires focus and stamina, as there are many passages and question to get through. If your child loves to read, he probably won’t be stressed by this portion of the test. However, for children that have a hard time sitting down to read for ten minutes, push them to read for longer periods of time.
· Ask your child questions about what they are reading. Try to get them to explain the plot and describe characters’ actions.
· Encourage calculator use and make sure that your child is using the calculator appropriately to solve math problems. The calculator is only helpful if it is used correctly.
· Review strategies for solving math problems. Pose a problem and see how many different ways your child can solve it. This encourages higher order thinking skills.

Students can continue to practice their math and reading skills at home through:
iReady (Reading)
Dreambox (Math)
Flocabulary (Reading, Math, and Science)
EOG Proctors Needed
Each year, our 3rd through 5th graders participate in state standardized tests called End of Grade (EOGs). In order to run these tests successfully, we require proctors to assist the teachers throughout the testing session.
Please consider volunteering to proctor with our EOGs at the end of the year.
This year, we will have our EOGs on:
- Tuesday, June 4th (ELA)
- Thursday, June 6th (Math)
- Monday, June 10th (5th Science and 3rd grade Read to Achieve)
