Family Newsletter - August 2023
Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year
Dear Northmont Middle School Families,
Welcome back to the 2023/2024 school year! It is with great pleasure that I extend my warmest greetings to each of you. I hope this letter finds you and your families in good health and high spirits as we begin another exciting journey of learning and growth at Northmont Middle School.
At the heart of every successful school is a strong partnership between educators, families, and students. By working together, taking responsibility together, and growing together, we can create an environment where our students thrive and reach their full potential. This year, we renew our commitment to fostering this collaborative spirit to ensure our students the best possible educational experience.
As principal, I am proud to lead a dedicated team of educators who are passionate about their profession and devoted to the success of our students. Our staff brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and enthusiasm to the classroom, as they are committed to providing a nurturing environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity.
On behalf of the entire staff at Northmont Middle School, I want to express my deepest gratitude for entrusting us with your child’s education. Here’s to a successful year of working, learning, and growing together!
I look forward to a successful and collaborative school year,
Mrs. Gover

FastBridge Benchmark Assessment
Your child will be taking the FastBridge fall benchmark on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 22nd & 23rd, 2023. Benchmark assessments help us measure student progress on specific topics, standards, and skills in English Language Arts and Math. We typically administer the test in the fall to collect information about what your child knows, in winter to progress-monitor growth, and again in the spring to measure end-of-year expectations of the standards. Benchmarking results, combined with other information about your child's academic performance, help to inform instruction, intervention, and measurement of growth on specific standards and the overall curriculum.
Here are ways you can support your child:
Remind them to do their best
Remind them to charge their iPad fully
As always, we appreciate your support!
Picture Day
Northmont Middle School Cell Phones/Electronic Devices Policy
CELL PHONES/TECHNOLOGY/ELECTRONIC DEVICES:
Cell phones (including Smart Watches) should be powered off (not merely muted) and stowed away (such as a backpack) from the time a student enters the building until the time a student leaves the building for the day. Students are not permitted to make calls or text during school hours. All communication with home during school hours should take place through the office or clinic, not via student cell phone.
SCHOOL-ISSUED ELECTRONIC DEVICES:
Technology use prepares students for high school, college, careers, and jobs. Technology also
changes rapidly, and schools must constantly adapt policies. Technically,
electronics are prohibited at the middle school. A student shall not use any technological
device in an unauthorized manner that violates the student network and Internet
Acceptable Use and Safety Agreement without the permission of the
Administration or Staff.
Students should not use electronic devices:
1. To take pictures during the school day, except pursuant to the instruction
of the teacher.
2. To videotape unauthorized content.
3. To record any conversations, except pursuant to the instruction of the
teacher.
4. To be used in the classroom without teacher authorization.
5. Used in any manner that causes noise that would disrupt others or conflict
with the student receiving verbal instructions.
6. To contact home about an illness or injury without notifying the school
nurse/attendance secretary.
The use of school-issued Electronic Devices is a privilege, not a right.
Students are expected to use these devices respectfully and responsibly.
ELECTRONIC DEVICE DISRUPTIONS: The use of an electronic device shall
not prevent adherence to any instruction or directions given during the school day.
Disruptions caused by electronic devices may be classified as insubordination.
This includes the disruption caused by Ipads, or any other
technological device making a noise/or being used within the classroom without
authorization. Students must treat the iPad with care by not dropping it, getting it
wet, leaving it outdoors, or using it near food or drink. The iPad must be kept in
the school-issued protective case at all times. The iPad should be brought to
school fully charged every day.
Per Semester
1st violation: Verbal warning; student must correct the violation or office referral.
2nd violation: Detention; student must correct the violation or office referral.
3rd violation: Office referral.
1st office referral: One (1) WASP
2nd office referral: Two (2) WASP
3rd office referral: One (1) to three (3) days out-of-school suspension. Reclassified as
repeated violations.

Dayton Metro Library
Welcome back to the new school year! As you settle in, we hope that regular trips to the library become a part of your routine. To allow the library to remain a welcoming place for everyone, we need your help and ask that you follow these rules:
1. No running or horseplay in the library - Even if it’s meant in good fun, it can quickly become unsafe, disturb other users, or end up with someone getting injured. Hands need to stay to yourself at all times.
2. No public displays of affection (PDA) - The library is not the place to hug, kiss, sit on laps, or otherwise put hands on each other.
3. Watch the noise level - This goes for both language and music. Anything excessive, loud, and crude is NOT acceptable.
4. No vaping in the library - You can’t vape, smoke, or have any illicit materials in the library. It’s illegal!
5. Clean up after yourselves - You can bring food and drinks into the library but you must clean up after yourself. We have a lot of trash cans. Please use them and help us keep the place clean.
We want you to use our library. However, we also need you to follow our rules. Violations of our rules will result in being asked to leave the library for the day or even further consequences. We can’t wait to have you here again and appreciate your help!
Sincerely, The Northmont Library Staff
