Curtis Chronicles
April 25, 2022
Hello from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock
Cougar families,
We are getting close to the end of our school year which brings opportunities for lots of events! Please be sure to check our calendar for all the exciting end of year activities your students will be participating in. In addition to all the fun, we are at the end of the year for testing. STAAR testing will begin on May 4 for our 8th grade Algebra students and continue for 8th graders on May 5 and 6. May 10 and 11 will be STAAR testing for both grade levels. We ask that you do not schedule appointments for these days so students can finish testing on the assigned dates and not have to worry about makeups. We also ask on those days that there are no lunch drop offs or visitors. We will have alternative lunch schedules because of testing so please plan to pack students a good lunch or purchase from the cafeteria. Students are allowed to dress comfortably for STAAR testing, but we do not allow pajama pants or any other clothing outside of the dress code. We will be asking students to change if they are out of dress code, so please help us not start their day off that way. Students can bring water bottles and snacks for testing.
Our final exams will be the last week of school from May 16-19. Per district policy, we cannot give exams early. Students who miss their exams will be given 10 days to come to campus to make up their exams.
Student yearbooks will be distributed to students who purchased them on May 13 during the school day.
Also, please be looking for district communication about Chromebook use over summer. Students will be allowed to keep devices over summer if the insurance fee has been paid. If families do not wish to take home their device for summer, an opt-out form in skyward will need to be completed. We will also be inspecting devices before the end of the school year to ensure the devices checked out are in working order and to renew the checkout in our database. If students’ devices are not inspected and renewed, that device will be considered lost and invoices will be sent to the family. If the insurance fee was paid after May 1, 2022, that fee will cover summer and the 22-23 school year. There will be more details in the technology communication coming soon so please be on the lookout for that.
We are continuing to encourage students to work hard to finish the year strong. We appreciate your partnership to keep encouraging them on your end too! We are proud of their work this year and have seen great things in their learning and development.
Have a wonderful week,
Sonya Pitcock
Principal, Curtis Middle School

Bylaws & Standing Rules
On Friday, April 8, the PTA Executive Board voted to recommend 1 change to Article IX, Section 1A of the Bylaws. The Bylaws currently provide that the Nominating Committee is comprised of 3 members and 2 alternates. The proposed change would reduce the Nominating Committee to 3 members and 1 alternate. This change will be voted on by PTA membership during the May membership meeting on Friday, May 13, 2022. The Executive Board also recommends several changes to the Standing Rules. Click here for a summary of those changes.
The changes to the Standing Rules will also be voted on during the during the May membership meeting on Friday, May 13, 2022.
Please contact Beth Bradley, PTA Parliamentarian at parliamentarian@curtiscougarpta.org if you have any questions about the Bylaws or Standing Rules.
