How Others Can Help
Others can help us and our issue by petitioning, talking to the administrators at your school about anti-drug programs, writing elected representatives, publicly speaking about the problems of drugs, and spreading awareness through social media and other outlets drugs. You can get people who have experienced drugs and ask them to make testimonies. You can petition to your elected official and tell the problems of drug abuse and write a letter to a representative about making anti-drug programs in school.What others can do to help us and our issue is to petition, talk to the administrators at your school about anti-drug programs, write to elected representatives, publicly speak about the problems of drugs, and spread awareness through social media and other outlets.
The What We Learned Section
Austin: I learned that legal drugs can become illegal drugs if they are used too much.
Simarion: I learned something about the D.A.R.E program
Kaden: I learned that in 2017, 4% of the American adolescent population suffered from a substance abuse disorder.
Chloe: I’ve learned that to be a good citizen we should advocate for issues in our community. We must look for the cause of the problem and find a solution that is most beneficial to helping the community. .
Lauryn: I learned that, to be a good citizen you need to be involved in your community.
Morghan: I learned that drug use among teenagers is increasing in schools.
Jana: I’ve learned ways to advocate, and stand up for a cause that you support.
Erin: I’ve learned that we should advocate for our issue. In order to find a beneficial solution to stop our community issue, I learned that we should find the root cause and find a way to find a solution to it.
Easton:I learned that 38 percent of adults in 2017 had a substance abuse problem
Ryan: I learned that I can effectively advocate for my community by first finding the root cause, then contact an elected official. That way we can find the problem, then eliminate it.
Interveiws
While conducting the interviews, we had a lot of people who knew about the DARE program and a few who weren’t really familiar with it. Many people said that the DARE program did educate them, and others said that they didn’t go through it themselves. They learned, while in DARE that drugs are bad for health and communities. While they were in school, some of the interviewees knew people who used drugs, and some didn’t know them directly. Most of the interviewees didn’t know of anyone who sold drugs, but the people who sold drugs, sold mostly marijuana. Many of the people we interviewed knows somebody who is addicted to prescription drugs.
