St. Luke Weekly Memo

In the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Remove the things that hinder us from receiving Christ with joy so that we may share his wisdom and become one with him when he comes in glory, for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Below is a message from Father Jim Corrigan on the second week of Advent: PEACE

Mrs. Odiobala can always be counted on to put a smile on the face of her coworkers and students alike. She brings so much joy to our school community with all of the wonderfully colourful stories that she shares during the times where the staff has a moment to gather. Even her most serious stories can make a person laugh because of her boisterous, exuberant way of telling them. Mrs. Odiobala is a kind, generous, tell it like it is kind of gal, who has a heart of pure gold!! We are so lucky to have her as part of our St.Luke School family!

Alberta Health Services has updated their guidelines for those under 18 as of November 2nd. Click to access the latest health checklist.

As a parent/guardian you are required to complete a daily health screening check for your child each day before they come to school. We need everyone's help and commitment to these health checks, as well as making sure that your child stays home if they are feeling unwell or displaying any symptoms.

On November 24th, Premier Kenney announced a State of Public Health Emergency that outlined restrictions upon schools throughout Alberta. Effective November 30th, Grade 7-12 students moved to online learning from home until January 11th.

Our K - 6 students will follow our EICS calendar. There will still be in school instruction for the K - 6 until December 22nd.

In the New Year all students will be online January 6th, 7th and 8th.

All students will be returning to school in person on January 11th.

If there are any other updates the school will notify the school community ASAP.

FUNDRAISING

Thank you to everyone who supported our first fundraising efforts of the year! Both the Mixing Spoon and Growing Smiles campaigns were successful in supporting our students and adding a little cheer to the season.

Also a huge shoutout to the Fundraising Committee - Heather Cherniak, Kyla Norris, Monica Fehr and Brenda Watmough - for their tireless efforts in making these fundraisers happen and to North Shore Environmental Consultants for the use of their space to receive our greenery delivery.

Here at the parish we’re learning as we go, figuring out how to deliver our sacramental preparation program in the covid environment and adapting to online as much as we can. We’re encouraging parents to complete their registrations electronically and will be meeting over zoom. Of course the Sacraments are still celebrated in person in the church so not everything will be online, but we are now offering the preparation and sacraments more frequently throughout the year in smaller groups rather than the large annual celebrations we had in previous years. It is never too late to prepare your child to receive a sacrament, even if your child is no longer in the youngest grade it is offered. Please visit the website for more information.

If you have a child in GRADE 2 OR OLDER please email: sacraments@olph.ca or visit https://www.olph.ca/sacraments/first-communion2/ to Register for First Reconciliation & Holy Communion $30 Registration fee for Workbooks and Class Materials and a copy of your child’s Baptism Certificate is required. Parents please pick up your child’s Workbooks for home study at the Parish Office during business hours (daily 7:30 am—7:30 pm)

If you have a child in GRADE 6 OR OLDER, please email: sacraments@olph.ca to Register for 2021 Confirmation Preparation. Lessons will start in January 2021. Registration fee $20 for workbook and class materials. A copy of the child’s baptism certificate is required.
