What a busy first half-term with lots of events and new learning taking place. Already I am amazed at the progress I have seen in children's work and I hope that you will be just as impressed when looking at some of the examples in our newsletter.
There is lots planned for Autumn 2 so remember to check the diary dates and event information near the end of our newsletter.
Included below is information on Bonfire Safety, which we have been teaching the children, and some competitions that might keep your children busy over half-term. I have also included some deals for well know food and shopping chains which have food offers for during the holidays - as we all know children seem to have an endless appetite! Have a wonderful half-term and we look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 6th November.
Remember to follow us on Instagram swinefleet_pr and join our school Facebook group.
Look at what we have been Learning
Pearls
What a busy half term it has been in Pearls class! Over the last few weeks, we have been learning about Swinefleet. We have been on a local walk and talked about how there used to be a Butchers, Police Station and Post Office in the village. We have also been looking at photographs from now and in the past. We all enjoyed visiting the church for the Harvest Festival last week and singing our song ‘Big, Red Combine Harvester!’ This week things have turned a little bit spooky in our classroom with a Halloween Focus. We have been scooping and exploring pumpkins in our trays outside and making delicious green potions in our water area! We have also been cutting and sticking paper pumpkins at our creative table. We will be finishing off the half term with our Halloween Party in the classroom.
We think all the children have settled into school routines extremely well. Enjoy a well-earned rest this half term week and we shall look forward to seeing you all back in school in November.
Rubies
Rubies have had a busy couple of weeks. In English we have been writing questions we would ask the snail from the story The Snail and the Whale.
In maths, we have been looking at number bonds to 10 and 20, using lots of different resources to support our learning.
We are on our last week of phonics so the children have been busy working with the teachers completing their assessments.
Diamonds
Diamonds have had a busy two weeks since the last newsletter; we’ve managed to pack lots of exciting work in!
During English, we have been practising ‘Performance Poetry’, researching different types of poetry, and performing our favourites to the class. We’ve even added instruments to allow us to create the rhythm and beat. In pairs, we have concentrated on writing our own raps or rhyming poems – it isn’t as easy as you think. The children have done a brilliant job.
In Maths, we have been focusing on addition and subtraction and have now moved on to word problems. For Science, we had a very messy, albeit fantastic and fun experiment to find organic and non-organic matter within soil. Children have been amazed at the results! (see the attached pictures).
Our swimming lessons are still going strong, with children having a lot more confidence in the water now. It has been a pleasure to see them all progress and look forward to going every week. We have three lessons left when we return to school, so please don’t forget your swimming kit on the first day back. Children are enjoying working with Jordan on a Monday afternoon (Hull FC) – please ensure that a full outdoor PE kit is in school all week, we like to get outside, even if it’s drizzling a little.
Mrs Moffat, Mrs Dexter and I would like to say huge “WELL DONE” to all of our children who achieved the Reading Reward this half term. Those children thoroughly enjoyed a film with treats on Thursday afternoon.
Finally, it was brilliant to see so many of you dressed up for Halloween today. All KS2 collaborated together for a Halloween party this afternoon and fun was had by all. Thank you to Mrs Dean and Mrs Moffat for creating such a brilliant party.
Have a restful half-term everybody, see you all soon!
Sapphires
A wonderful last two weeks for the Sapphires! The highlight was our trip to the Skylark Centre and Drax Power Station. The children were the first to have the opportunity to be Eco Warriors. This involved a nature walk, listening to the sounds of nature and some tree hugging! It was wonderful to learn about how Drax Power Station works and find out about the range of careers on offer there. The children displayed exemplary behaviour throughout the day.
During Guided Reading, we are continuing to find out about how Lil, Tulip and Oz can get the mysterious jar back to Egypt. Will they conquer the Valley of the Kings? The Sapphires are proud of their wonderful character descriptions and are enjoying publishing them this week.
Whilst the Year 5s were at swimming, the Year 6s worked in partners to tackle some grammar activities – including the passive voice. In Maths, the children are confident multiplying three digits by two digits. They are currently learning how to divide larger numbers and it is superb to see their resilience in tackling this. In preparation for our Ancient Egyptian exhibition, the children have created double page spreads on the daily life of the Egyptians and created their own Egyptian god or goddess. The Sapphires have created their own web pages as part of their computing lessons. Everyone can now create a zine (mini book) and have made a range of these linked to history and art. As part of the Living Things and Habitats unit for science, the children have drawn and explained the life cycles of animals and plants. The children are having fun looking at different fruits in French with Mrs. Harrison. The Reading Reward for children who have done 18 reads or more has been a highlight for everyone and having a Halloween party to celebrate the end of half term. Thank you for your hard work Sapphires and everyone’s support.
Remember to keep reading on see saw, practising spellings and practising multiplication tables on times tables rockstars.
Please keep safe over half term during Halloween and Bonfire Night. Have a lovely half term and we are looking forward to seeing you all back on Monday 6th November.

A huge thank for your donations which have been collected by Mission Trinity to support their food bank and the Help the Homelezz team. In a time when people are struggling financially it has been wonderful to see everyone being so generous. Thank you.

Polite request and donations
If you have any spare uniform please consider donating back to us. This will be offered for free at Parent's Evening. Wearing uniform is so important as children feel the same so we try to support this as much as possible. The children decided this was one of our School Absolutes and is in our policy.
If you have any spare dressing up clothes we would be very grateful for these. Thank you.
Christmas Trip
Our Christmas Trip is all booked and you will have recieved a letter today (a copy is below too). We are really looking forward to this and will be telling the children on Monday morning during assembly so keep it a secret for now.
Angel Tree
After the amazing success of our Angel Tree over the last few years we are again asking for your nominations. Nominate someone to recieve a gift, via the Angel Tree, who maybe lives alone and won't recieve a gift this Christmas, a family who are struggling or a child going through a difficult time. You can also nominate charities too - previous charities have included Help the Homelezz, Jerry Greens Dog Rescue, Market Weighton Cats Rescue, RSPCA, YMCA goole and Mission Trinity. Let's all spread some Christmas cheer.
Angels will be placed on the tree and can then be chosen by kind members of the public who purchase a gift for their chosen angel (we do give suggestions) and return this to us for wrapping and distribution. If you do not wish to give second names or addresses of your nominee that is fine as long as you are happy to distribute their gift once wrapped.
Nominations can be sent to swinefleet.primary@eastriding.gov.uk or through messenger. If nominating an individual please let us know of any allergies (gifts that wouldn't be suitable) and feel free to add any gift suggestions.
We will let you know when our Angel Tree is live.
School Opening Times
A parent has contacted us about concerns regarding children waiting to come into school due to the road. This is a concern for us as a school too and we previously used to open early to avoid children waiting outside but this became difficult as we found children would come often before 8:30am and staff would then be needed to look after them as well as our Breakfast Club children. We have however, decided that we shall open the door to avoid children and parents having to wait near the road but please can we stress that children should not be entering site before 8:40am and unless in KS2 should be supervised on the playground whilst waiting.
Can I thank the parent for their email as this is a situation that does not to be addressed and so far as a school we have struggled to get very far with the Council despite requesting a survey. Our Governing Body, is also keen to get support with the road outside of school after having the Crossing Patrol removed by the council last year. I know that many parents have also contacted the council. Governors are writing to the council and suggesting a range of options so we will keep you updated as to our progress with this.

Attendance and why it is Important
Below are some leaflets explaining the importance of school attendance. There is some advice to support high attendance and staff are always willing to help so please speak to us should you need any help.
If your child is off school staff will ensure that any work is kept for them and then can be sent home so that they do not fall behind.
Please ensure that you let us know if your child is unwell so that we can record this as authorised.
