FROM PRINCIPAL
Dear Bourchier Community,
Well, this week has definitely shown us that Winter is here! We have had continuous days of wet weather timetables and it is not easy on everyone being cooped up inside a lot of the time! I hope everyone has stayed relatively dry on your way to and from school. As we dive into the colder and wetter season, we need to remember to focus on our well-being and staying healthy. The changing weather can affect our immune systems, so it's crucial to look after ourselves and our little ones. Remember to dress warmly, drink plenty of fluids, and to stay at home if you or your child is unwell. In this week's newsletter we have included a picture of some healthy lunchbox ideas for you to consider to ensure we are eating nutritious meals which will help keep those colds at bay.
To keep our students engaged and excited during lunchtime, we are launching several new lunchtime activities. These activities are designed to stimulate minds, encourage creativity, and promote social interaction.
Starting this week or next, we will be offering a variety of clubs for our students to choose from. Kids can get active by riding bikes and scooters around our track, develop strategic thinking skills with the Chess Club, unleash their artistic talents with the Art and Drawing Club, dive into the fascinating world of technology with the Tech Club, or challenge themselves with the Rubik's Cube Solving Club.
We encourage you to have a conversation with your children to discover their current interests and preferences and encourage them to get involved in something fun at lunchtime.
As always there are heaps of other things happening around the place. Please check our school calendar to stay informed of everything that is going on!
Stay warm, stay healthy, and let's make the most of this wonderful season of growth and discovery!
Warm regards,
Gary D'Arma
How do we report student progress to families?
At Bourchier Street Primary School, we believe the best way to report to parents about student progress is to provide them with authentic, ongoing feedback. That's why we've invested heavily in utilising the Seesaw Learning platform to allow us to develop an approach to reporting that focuses on:
Reporting on student progress in a continuous, in-time fashion: We believe that learning is a continuous process, and we want to report on student progress in the same way. That's why we're using Seesaw to provide ongoing feedback to parents, rather than waiting until the end of the semester to provide a summary report.
Directly linking reporting to student work: We want parents to see the evidence of their child's learning, so we're making all student work available through our Seesaw learning platform. This way, parents can see what their child is working on, how they're progressing, what they're still working on and areas for improvement.
Increasing student engagement: When students receive regular feedback and know that this feedback is being shared with parents, they are more likely to stay engaged in their learning. This is because they know that their progress is being monitored and that they can ask questions and clarify any misunderstandings to help them meet their goals.
Enhancing parent-teacher collaboration: Continuous reporting can also help to enhance parent-teacher collaboration. Parents can see how their child is progressing throughout the year, and they can work with teachers to develop strategies to help their child succeed.
End-of-semester reports are still an important part of our reporting program and we will continue to provide those. These reports will provide you with information relating to the progress of your child in relation to the Victorian Curriculum standards. They will summarise work habits and include general commentary about your child's progress. It is important for families to understand that end-of-semester reports only form a part of our approach to reporting. It is our aim to provide you with a more comprehensive and accurate picture of your child's progress.
We will continue to refine and improve our approach to reporting progress to families, and to help us in this aim, we encourage you to explore Seesaw and use it to stay connected with your child's learning.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Thanks for your time!

Junior School enjoy their Friday Fruit Platters
Fruit is one of the most important parts of your child's diet. Fresh fruit is a nutritious source of fiber, which many children don't get enough of in their daily diets.
Each Friday morning the Junior students get excited to see a large fruit platter being delivered to their classroom by one of our parents. Volunteers gather in the staff room at 9am each Friday and chop up the delicious healthy fruit. Fresh fruit contains nutrients that give your children energy so they can be active. Junior parents are welcome to come help serve up the platters on a Friday morning!
Pizza temporarily unavailable
Students being dropped off and picked up from School
Please do not pull into either STAFF CAR PARK to drop your children off or pick them up.
The staff car park is out of bounds and choosing to use these areas is endangering
our children.
We have many teachers entering and exiting the car park before and after school, so this is a child free zone.
The Balaclava Rd. child care centre is a private park, so please refrain from parking there.
Kiss & Go
This is designed for parents to pull in, say goodbye to their children and exit within
2 minutes. Parents are not to leave the car. The council will be monitoring time
limits and will issue fines if parents are not adhering to the rules.
Please respect other people’s private driveways, and adhere to parking signage or you may receive a fine.
Thanks so much

FUN Sushi Rolls - Why not give it a go and try them in the lunchbox
Sushi may seem fiddly at first, but it’s not! Just think of it as wraps made with rice that let you mix and match ingredients.
Tips:
👪Get the kids involved to select their own filling or make their own rolls.
🍚Use leftover rice.
🍣Lint free large hand towels or chux can be used instead of a sushi mat.
If you would like to see a clip on how to make them visit
Thank you to our supporters!
