Principal Message
Findley Families,
Happy Friday! I can’t believe it’s almost December. Time flies when you’re having fun.
Spring Conferences have changed dates! Please mark your calendars with the new dates. Spring Conferences have been changed from the last week of April, to the first week of April. They will be Wednesday, April 1 from 4:00-8:00 PM and Thursday, April 2, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. We are not able to accommodate conference times outside of these designated times, so please be watching for your children’s teachers to send home sign-ups, likely sometime in March. This also means that there will be no school Thursday, April 2 or Friday, April 3.
The annual Cedar Mill/Bethany Library reading contest will begin next month, on Monday, December 9. In the past, students have read and documented their hours in order to buy goats for families in need. This year, students will be reading for bees! You read that right, bees! Honey bees are important contributors to the health of our planet as super pollinators. Findley students will be reading and documenting their hours in order to purchase hives for families in need across the world. For more information about honey bees click here. Our school wide goal is 8000 hours. That’s about 12 hours per student between December 10 and January 17. Findley students can easily reach this goal. 8000 hours will purchase 50 hives. We can do this, Dragons!
Next week is a short one; there is no school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Although we all celebrate differently, one thing everyone can agree on is that this is a great time of the year to practice gratitude. That said, I am grateful for the opportunity to be the leader of our school community. Thank you for the opportunity to learn from your kiddos. I love my job!
If I don’t get the chance to say it next week, may you all enjoy the holiday.
With Gratitude
Sherry Marsh, Ed.D.

OBOB NEWS
We are off and running, we have 56 registered teams for the 2020 OBOB season!! I currently have 2 training times set for all OBOB participants, Friday Dec. 6th & Friday, Dec. 13th during the lunch recess.
3rd graders will meet from 11:40 - Noon,
4th graders will meet from 12:05 - 12:25
5th graders will meet from 12:30 - 12:50
During this time I will explain the battles procedures and show a video of an actual battle. Parents are welcome to attend these meetings (but it is not mandatory).
In January I will meet with the team captains to set a battle schedule and Battles will begin Wednesday, January 22nd (we will not battle on Tuesdays to avoid conflict with the Running Club). I will also set a training date for parent volunteers in January. So let’s start reading and I look forward to a fun OBOB season...Go Dragons!
TAG Update
If your child took an ITBS and/or Cogat test this week, test results should be in within the first or second week of December. Please check ParentVue for results. Mrs. Bauck will not know any sooner than you will, so it is best to keep checking and not email. If they do not get in by the Summa application deadline, they will still accept your application once the test scores are in. If your child missed the test, our testers will come back around to buildings to test them. We will likely not know when that will be as it is dependent on availability.
Thanks and have a good break,
Shannon Bauck
Your Student now has an WCCLS card!!!
Parents, this week the Washington County Community Library Services drop off individual library cards for all our students. This opens up a whole new literary world. If your child already has a library card, then they will receive a welcome letter telling them about the program. If you are a newer family to Findley or you opted out having your name printed in the directory then your child will receive a letter inviting them to go to the library and sign up.
There are many advantages to the cards:
Without even going to the physical library your child may link up through the District’s Sora App and link to WCCLS, this will give access to all electronic books and audio books.
Tumblebook is available for the younger students, this allows your child to see an animated version of the book and read along with or without audio assistance.
BrainFuse is available to the older students which offers LIVE on-on-one homework help (during specific hours). Your child can log in and receive help with their schoolwork.
No Videos or Games are available to the students unless the guardian goes into the local Library and upgrade the card!!
Check out your child’s new card and check out your local Community Libraries!!
Report Cards Are Going Paperless
The Beaverton School District is transitioning to electronic report cards for all students. This upcoming Progress period will be the last time we will be printing and mailing paper progress reports/report cards. The electronic report cards will be accessed through ParentVUE (mobile and desktop). If parents/guardians have not set up their ParentVUE account, they will need to do so by January 2020.
There are resources and guidance on how to set up a ParentVue account. Please view the FAQ for instructions on setting up an account.
There are several benefits to moving to paperless report cards. Families will be able to view grades days after grading days, rather than wait up to two weeks for a report card to come by mail or in their child’s backpack. In addition, moving away from paper is environmentally friendly and cost-effective for the District.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to contact the school for assistance with a printed copy of the ParentVue access information.

Findley Art Literacy
Art Literacy Artist for Nov/Dec: DIEGO VELÁZQUEZ, Spanish Baroque Painter (1599-1660)
Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez was born in Seville, Spain, in 1599. In 1622, Velázquez moved to Madrid, where he eventually came to the attention of King Philip IV who appointed him as one of his court painters. Velázquez was known for his portraits of the royal family and other people at court.
While viewing some of the Velázquez's paintings, students learned to identify the foreground, middle ground and backgrounds of paintings and learned how they help create a feeling of space or distance in an artwork. Students were inspired to create their own landscape with a feeling of space.
