Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Caregivers, Tēnā koutou
Welcome back to a new term. Term 4 is always a busy time with lots of exciting activities planned. The seniors are currently away on their alpine camp at Rotoiti Lodge, and the Yr 3/4 students are heading off to Mistletoe Bay next week. The juniors are also busy planning a day excursion to Lochmara Lodge later on in the term.
As well as exciting trips we will be getting underway with our athletics training in preparation for our Athletics Day later in the term as well.
As the days are getting warmer, children will be expected to wear their school hats while outside. These have been distributed to all the tamariki. We encourage them to take responsibility for their own hats as a way to build independence.
Once again, we would like to thank you for your ongoing support with Alert Level 2 restrictions, we are hoping to see you all back at assemblies and school events soon!

Deputy Principal
Level 2 Covid Reminder:
Please note that School does not open until 8.30am. Please do not drop students off prior to this time.
If you need to come into the school between 9am and 3pm you must come to the school office to fill in the Contact Tracing Register. As with all indoor areas, please keep the expected 2 metre social distancing from others and wear a mask.
Covid -19 Vaccination Update
The Government has mandated that all Education based staff members need to have had at least their first Covid 19 vaccination by November 15 and the final one by January 1 2022.
All staff at Waikawa Bay School are either all fully vaccinated or have had their first injection.
There are many questions regarding the mandatory vaccinations for schools, especially concerning contractors, volunteers and school trips.
The Ministry of Education shares information with schools daily and as the Covid 19 situation changes so do the requirements and rules.
At this stage, we believe that it is a requirement for all contractors and volunteers at school, or on school trips to have had at least their first vaccination by the 15th of November.
For us, this will mean we need to have proof of volunteers and contractors vaccination records from the 15th of November.
There are still some uncertainties regarding school related gatherings while under Alert Level 2. Unfortunately many events have been cancelled due to Level 2 Public Health Requirements including, the Marlborough Schools Music Festival, Athletics and Ahuareka.
In a recent Ministry Bulletin it stated:
“While there is discretion in what you may do at Alert Level 2 (subject to meeting public health requirements), we encourage you to consider adopting a similar stance to government decisions more generally – that is, take a precautionary approach when deciding whether to host a gathering or large event.
However, even if your event is considered to be for education purposes, unless it is really necessary to give effect to the curriculum, we recommend you avoid such events until Alert Level 1. An example of this is prize giving – though they are an important aspect of school life, they are not a curriculum requirement.”
We are working through plans for our future events to see if we can still go ahead with parents involved, especially our School Athletics and School Prize giving, but also keeping in line with Public Health requirements. We certainly hope they can.
I will keep you informed with any information regarding these events.
Thank you for your support
