USC Viterbi K-12 STEM Center: Code.org Applications Open!
Hello!
We are excited to announce that Code.org applications are now open for middle and high school educators interested in teaching Computer Science (CS)!
Code.org is a national nonprofit that partners with U.S.-based organizations, such as universities, who serve as K-12 computer science hubs in each region. As a Code.org regional partner, we at the USC Viterbi K-12 STEM Center offer training for teachers interested in using the standards-aligned Code.org curriculum with their students.
CS Discoveries (CSD) is for middle school while CS Principles (CSP) is for high school … and this year (for the first time), we are thrilled to also offer CS Advanced (CSA) for teaching AP CS in high school.
- Teacher training starts in Summer (July 2023) with a 5-day intensive, followed by support sessions throughout the school year as teachers implement lessons for the first time.
- All training sessions are on Zoom, facilitated by experienced teachers. No experience with computers or CS is necessary.
- Scholarships are readily available (indicate interest within the application itself).
- High school teachers are also eligible to apply for an industry expert volunteer through the Microsoft TEALS program that matches a CS professional with a class. Applications for a TEALS volunteer to work with your class are due mid-February 2023.
NOTE: LAUSD runs its own Code.org professional development for its own LAUSD-affiliated teachers, whereas we reach all non-LAUSD teachers in our region.
Flyers are attached that describe all of the above (each program separately and one that has all the programs together). Complete information is also updated on our Center’s Code.org webpage, and/or access a program info session recording.
Apply Now to get started with bringing Computer Science to your classrooms!
…And for your students…the USC Viterbi K-12 STEM Center offers in-person and virtual CS@SC coding camps all year! CS@SC Coding Camps has now opened its Spring camps signups for K-12 students who are interested in coding, programming, and building robots! Flyer attached.
Thank you!
Warm regards,
