Hoover Elementary School News
January 2024
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Happy New Year!
I hope you had a healthy, restful holiday break. Now that we are back into the swing of things at school, we are rounding out the end of the second marking period and first semester of the school year. Over the next few weeks students will be completed middle of year Acadience benchmark assessments for reading and math in their classrooms. Once all the assessments are complete, your child's teacher will be sending home a parent report with their scores. Keep in mind, this assessment is one small piece of data that teachers use to monitor student progress.
At the end of this month, we will be holding the Hoover Mini-mini THON at our school. Check out the details here to review the special events planned for our Mini-mini THON on January 26, 2024.
Now that the winter weather is upon us, we have seen an increase in families using the car rider line. Please know that there is two-lane traffic until you enter through the entrance gate. Therefore, you must form a single lane on the right side of the road and make sure you are not blocking driveways or intersections. Failure to follow this traffic pattern/flow may result in being ticketed by the Camp Hill PD.
Additionally, we do make every effort to get the students outside for recess. We go outside when the temperature is 25 degrees or above. Therefore, it's important that students are coming to school with the proper outdoor attire (i.e. coats, gloves, hats, etc.) Make sure their belongings are labeled too so items do not end up "lost"!
Finally, check out the information below regarding our upcoming events and activities this month. There are lots of exciting things happening at Hoover.
Happy new year!
Mrs. Czarnecki
Leader in Me - Practicing the 7 Habits at Home
This month's habit is about working together to come up with solutions that are better for everyone. Thinking win-win involves listening to one another and thinking about what is in the best interest of others, not just yourself!
Habit #4 Means:
- I can problem solve when an issue comes up with another person.
- I think about what other people want not just what I want.
- I am kind to others and try to think about ways to help everyone be happy.
This month, sit down with your family and use the questions on the worksheet below to brainstorm how you can apply Habit 4 in your family!
Habit 4 Brainstorm Activity
Use the worksheet attached below to do a brainstorm activity on Habit 4!
Talk About It
Select an issue that has created a struggle within your family. It could be something such as
getting a toy your children want badly, visiting an amusement park, or doing something you’re not sure you want them to do. Sit down and discuss it. Lay all the relevant issues and feelings on the table. Determine what would constitute a win for each person involved and try to come up with a true win-win solution. Discuss together how you feel when the solution is reached.
Read a Book Together
Check out these books that demonstrate Habit #4! Read or watch a read-aloud together and talk about how the characters think win-win (or don't!).
The Little Red Hen
This book can be found on the myON app through your child's ClassLink or you can watch a read-aloud below.
The Sandwich Swap by Queen Rania Al Abdullah and Kelly DiPucchio
Watch the read-aloud below.
Enemy Pie by Derek Munson

Lion PRIDE January Kickoff
We will have a school-wide PBIS Kickoff for students and staff on Friday, January 19th in the afternoon. Over the last few weeks, teachers and staff have been reviewing our school-wide expectations. Each class will work together to complete the activity "River Crossing" to obtain a special envelope. They will bring their class envelope and its contents to a special assembly where a secret message will be revealed. Ask your child about this special activity next week when they come home.
Counselor's Corner
All students have been enjoying our new Career Exploration platform, Xello. Through a game called “Career Town” students are learning about a variety of careers and tools, as well as answering questions about their strengths and interests. You can get a glimpse into this fun game by following this link. Additionally, you will soon receive an email inviting you to connect to your child’s Xello account where you can view their self-selected interests and strengths, and their progress through the program!
