Sycamore Junior High's Parent Communication
January 15, 2021
School Goals
Ensure safety of self and students
Provide engaging, standards-based digitized curriculum both F2F and Virtually
Remain prepared to adapt
Note: Upcoming Format Change
Due to the complexities and limitations of the S'More software, the inclusive nature of most of our information, and in an attempt to provide the most accurate communication to our families, the organization of the weekly Junior High newsletter will be altered to include three sections, beginning with the next edition. They are:
- Information pertinent to ALL families
- Information specific ONLY to Virtual Classroom
- Information specific ONLY to F2F Classroom
We appreciate your understanding as we work to provide the best communication possible to all our families.

Optional In-Person MAP Testing
Please note the registration deadline is January 21, 2021 at 11:55 p.m.
Virtual learners will be taking the Reading and Math assessments in the virtual classroom setting on February 1st and 2nd. If you would like the testing scores to be considered for gifted testing for the 2021-2022 school year, your child will need to take the assessments in person on February 9th and 10th at Sycamore Junior High School.
Students do NOT need to take this test in person to remain in gifted programming.
IN-PERSON TESTING INFORMATION:
This year, we are offering in-person testing for students in the virtual classroom on Tuesday, February 9th (ELA), and Wednesday, February 10th (MATH) at Sycamore Junior High School from 8:00 - 10:00 each day. These days coincide with our Face 2 Face students who will also be taking MAP testing during that time.
If you would like for your child to participate in this testing, please submit THIS FORM by January 21, 2021 before 11:55pm.
ON TESTING DAY:
We will adhere to the district's safety protocols and also require that any student who signs up for testing wear a mask. Students will need to be dropped off at the front door. They will have their temperature taken upon entering the building and will then enter the building, where testing will occur. Your child will need to bring their fully charged Chromebook, a pencil, and a book to read in the event they finish the testing early.
Please note that transportation to and from Sycamore Junior High will NOT be provided. Please drop off students for testing by 8:00 and pick up promptly at 10:00.
The email address you use to sign your child up will be the email address used for any communication regarding this optional gifted testing opportunity.
If you have questions please contact Clay Lavercombe, lavercombec@sycamoreschools.org.
Thank you!
