Congratulations Cheryl Jordan, Principal, Roosevelt Elementary
The Yakima School District would like to congratulate Cheryl Jordan, who has been hired as the new principal of Roosevelt Elementary, beginning July 1.
Cheryl’s career in education began 28 years ago as a paraeducator in Yelm, Washington. Serving 17 years in the Yakima School District, Cheryl has worked for eight years as a classroom teacher, four years as an instructional facilitator (all at Adams Elementary), and five years as an assistant principal - four years at Garfield and one year at Hoover.
Cheryl attended Central Washington University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education (K-8) with a minor in Special Education and a Master’s degree in Education with a focus on reading. In the spring of 2017, she attained her Administrative Certification from Gonzaga University and was hired at Garfield Elementary School as the assistant principal.
Cheryl believes in building strong collaborative relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners, which will produce a positive school culture for all stakeholders. Cheryl has extensive experience in data analysis, program initiatives, optimizing the learning atmosphere, staff development, and promoting a safe environment. Cheryl has a proven record for exceeding goals through effective internal and external communication and is committed to student academic success with a systems-focused process. Cheryl is energetic, organized, always ready to learn, a problem solver, communicator, and a team player.
Cheryl and her husband enjoy spending time with their two boys and family, along with their granddaughter, who will be starting Kindergarten this August. They enjoy hiking, biking (mountain and motor), camping, rock/ice climbing, skiing, kayaking, music, reading, and running. She looks forward to her continued work with students, staff, and families in the Yakima School District!
